Exterminator Dragon
About this creation
This is the Exterminator Dragon from the How to Train your Dragon books. Personally the movie is better, but the books do have some neat dragons. Exterminators are extremely dangerous dragons. Thankfully their eggs only hatch when exposed to lava. So because of that I tried to give him a molten look.

The head is my own design (this time). Once again though I must say that I used techniques I learned from looking at mocs made mostly by Stormbringer. Like most of the dragons in the movie this exterminator has an underbite.

I liked the low-slung/crouching look. I think it fits pretty well with the dragons extremely violent nature.

The most noticeable thing about Exterminators are their front claws. In the book they have five razor sharp, sword-like talons. I felt that three looked better, and was easier to make. Anyway, I love these Ninjago dragon hand pieces. They made me want to attempt this dragon in the first place.

Exterminators are among the few dragons that kill and burn just for the fun of it. This puts them at odds with the vikings.

Though not their deadliest weapon, an Exterminators fire is extremely powerful.

Only the best vikings ever go after them. This poor fellow obviously was not the best.

This is some concept art I drew before I built the set. I like how I was able to keep fairly close to my original idea.

I would have loved to make a huge, lava-covered landscape, but I just didn't have the pieces. I hope you like the build. More dragons yet to come.

I like the way you sketch out the design before executing it! I liked the samurai swords as the talons and the sense of humor with the guy being burnt to cinders by the dragon's breath!

He looks really crazy, I liked that about him instantly. Of course then there were some details that threw him off. I do appreciate your work on full wings, but the shape throws them off. One tip that may help you on building heads: minifig arms look VERY organic.

Ooh, wow, I remember these guys from How to Twist a Dragons Tale. Nasty. *shivers*

Now here's one of the real dragons from the book, and great work on him. His wings does look a bit empty, but that's small compared to rest of him. Looks like you're going to make more from the series. Can't wait!

This is great. I love the katana front talons, the tail is nicely done, that big blast of fire looks sweet and the viking's ignoble end is perfectly captured. Great concept sketch too. I agree about the wings - maybe some more segmenting and/or some red highlights? I can't really remember what it looked like in the film.

It looks exactly like the sketching! The only thing you can improve on is the wings though. But other than that, 5/5!
