About this creation
Shamrock Ladder Company's 1941 American LaFrance JOX 85' aerial ladder truck. Even though is nearly 71 years old, the truck still remains on active duty for the residents on the West side of Ticlaw, as well as the rest of the city. Through the 71 years, the truck has participated in countless operations in fire suppression, high rise rescue, and mutual aid for the surrounding communities.

The truck arrived late in October by railway car and was certainly the 'talk' of the town. The truck replaced Shamrock's 1918 American LaFrance tractor drawn aerial. This was the first aerial in Ticlaw with a metal aerial ladder. The truck was refurbished three times, the most recently performed in 2002. During that upgrade, the original V12 engine was completely rebuilt, and a new automatic transmission was installed. It was during this time, new hydraulics for the aerial were installed.

Shamrock Ladder Company began in 1906 when a group of Irish minifigs settled in Ticlaw to work at the Maylick Lollipop Factory. Their first piece of apparatus was a horse drawn service ladder wagon. It was used until the company made history in Ticlaw, by purchasing the first motorized piece of fire equipment in Ticlaw, the 1918 American LaFrance 85' wooden aerial truck. It was also that year, the company built their permanent station, which serves them today.

There are still a couple areas that need to be completed or changed. First I am waiting for the pieces to make for holding the aerial inplace. I am also hoping to locate a green hinge piece for the aerial. Otherwise the truck is complete. I am working on building the engine that serves the Shamrock Station. I hope to also work on the station itself someday. The station in the background is Laurel Hose and Chemical Company.
Let me know what you think......

In relation to your last comment Christopher, I'd love to see a new Seagrave 100' RMA when you decide to retire the JOX. Something like this would be cool in green: http://firenews.org/mass/LynnL2new11JB.jpg |

Thanks for the comment...I now that it is highly unlikely that anyone would still be using such a historic piece of equipment. I now that a few towns are still using 700 series ALF's...I just hate to retire it!!! Plus trying to built another green truck. The truck was originally blue and part of Neptune Ladder Company...However when I wanted the railroad windscreen, there weren't any blue. It was black, red, green and maybe a gray.. So it was rebuilt green and history changed to Shamrock. Just haven't searched my stored boxes of pieces to find another color hinge. I was well aware of your link, with the green JO.. My hometown once operated a JOX. Maybe once I get the rest of my apparatus completed, I will consider Shamrock retiring the JOX and looking for a newer aerial. Quoting Lego Fire Museum Inc.
Nice work. However, I doubt that anyone would be running a JOX today in active service. As a collector's piece, that's another story. The ladder could have a gray or black piece for the hinge instead of blue. I like the way you built the ground ladder storage. Green is a good color for a JOX. http://www.alfowners.com/Forums/showthread.php?p=1171

I have certain feel for this since my company was founded by a group in a Irish Community and still serves with green trucks with a gold stripe. Awesome creation. |

This one has to be my favorite rig of yours, Christopher! The green really makes it stand out from other Ladders. I really like how you usually build older trucks instead of new ones, they're so vastly different. Keep on building, my friend! |
