I'm working on LDD files for displaying ideas and techniques I used in the construction of some of my MOCs. As time progresses and I make new ones, the folder will grow with LDD versions of what I make. The LDD file will be added to each for use as a reference.
Let's start with how I got the legs of my Locust to move without moving the weapons mounted outside of them. I wanted something that would go through the hip joint but, still not move. What I went with was a 2M FRIC SNAP W/ CROSS HOLE mounted onto a 2M CROSS AXLE, which was attached inside. A 1X2 TECHNIC brick for the leg fits over the peg to the stop, leaving the outer part exposed:
Then I assembled the weapon pod the goes outside the leg, leaving the center hollow to allow it to fit over the end of the exposed peg:
LDD wouldn't let me actually attach the pod to the peg, among other building aspects with the weapons. It does work though however, there still does exist the slightest bit of movement when the leg is moved. For the most part, the technique does it's job. I'm sure the idea can be used for other concepts or even improved. Any questions, feel free to ask. Yes, I did use the odd color scheme on the LDD file that I used with the actual creation.
