Name: Customised Human Interface Prototype (C.H.I.M.P.)
Description: CHIMP was developed with multiple environments in mind. His four limbed walking stance gives him a great deal of stability on sand, concrete, in jungles and forests and even on mountain sides. He is the original all weather all terrain artillery mecha. His PAWS are specifically designed for grasping, giving him the added battlefield advantage of climbing trees, scaling mountains, or just ripping the AI modules off other Mecha.
He is armed with a variety of short range, rapid firing weapons, plus twin long range cannons mounted on his shoulders.
For bursts of speed, and to assist him when climbing, he also packs a small rocket booster pack on his back which can be repositioned for directional firing. This also serves and an impromptu rear facing weapon if he's ambushed from behind.

Height comparison to a mini fig.

Raising one PAW allows CHIMP to deploy the wrist cannons, useful for dealing with human opponents and crowds.

When needed CHIMP can walk/attack in biped mode.

Creator Notes:
This was created for the first competition in the Mecha Contests group. The theme is Mini Mecha (I'm not 100% on just how tall a mini is but this stands about 4 minifigs tall which is under the size of most exo force mecha).
There was no specific theme, so I went with something I figured no one else was likely to have come up with.
To comply with the rules of the contest I'll be adding a list of the other entries here:
1. COMPETITION 1 Entry: C.H.I.M.P. (LDD) from me
2. Contest Entry - CE Drone from JakTheMad
3. Contest Entry: BD-04 "Viper" from Thomas Z
4. MAU-1 Berserk from ariklego ...The Director!
5. Scimitar command unit from Bryce (Brickbrycebrick)
6. AK-34 "Stalker" Mech (Contest Mech) from General Chris "Maverick" Davis
7. Mecha Contest "Mini-Mech" Entry: Legionary Mecha from Marcus Jackson
8. HAEA-3 (Contest entry MK III) from LTE CEO of MMWI
9. LTM-O Jetkiller FROM ED Eroomdivad
10. APMS-1::Ab Nusquam (ANu) (Contest Entry) from BiO.Andrew
11. [CBMC Chunkblaster link to follow]
The rules are that I will comment and rate on the other entrants with a score from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) and which ever of us gains the most wins - simples.
I constructed the frame from scratch, in fact this is the first time I've used the studs with holes as joints like this and I'm amazed at how versatile they actually are. There are obviously some physical similarities to my previous frames as I've used mostly T-bars throughout.
There were 2 previous incarnations made as tests, which I may upload tomorrow, they don't use the same frame, but didn't feel quite as original as this idea. (that said I have previously made a simian mecha, but the scale and frame were a lot larger than this one). Plus this is maybe my 5th quadrupedal unit.
I was tempted to turn this into the latest of my CyberAgent Beasts, since it does have that vibe about it, but decided against it since I wasn't sure what implications that would have regarding the contest.

I noticed on the first picture (I think) you explained the acronym chimp, but there was no word for the letter M. Just letting you know, unless it was intentional.
DOH! I may get round to editing it, but right now I'm a little busy.

A very unusual concept, but I like it! I think the armor could be a little more intricate and detailed though. I also think that better weapons would make this mecha better too. You get points for creativity, and pulling it off. 3.5/5 |

ou did a very thorough job of photographing and posing. The mech itself is quite detailed, and really captures the primate look. This is also quite original a design in the contest thus far. 3/5. It's good, but wasn't quite a show stopper. |

Quite an interesting design. Never seen anything quite like this. Its a bit awkward looking, but nonetheless a very stout and sturdy mech. MY rating: 4/5 Nice work! |

I also believe that the guns are not necessary at all for this build. I can only imagine this as a brute melee fighting machine. The armor is nice but some places are lacking. Posability is superb along with originality! 3/5
I was going for a Zoids style with the weapons, I like them but judging is down to personal preference and I respect you have a different take on it. The armour on second glance does need some work, I like those grid tiles a little too much, need to start mixing it up a bit.
Like I said to bryce, a version 2 incorporating some of the suggestions may follow once the contest is over. |

Interesting design but it might need a little work, I give it 3/5.
In hindsight it was a little rushed, there are some features I'm proud of, but also some I would have definitely done differently in a mark II or III. May do a "re-think" version once the contest is over.

Nice idea. The posability is pretty good. The armour is okay. Main things that I felt let it down were the head, cockpit (I think it would have been better without IMHO) and the weapons. Nice mech but nothing too spectacular. 3/5
fair enough, thanks for the feedback.

An excellently produced design, with plenty of mobility and great looks. However I feel some parts look a bit out of place, for example the two shoulder cannons and front cockpit, so for that reason you get a 3/5.
I intend to upload my mech today, since yesterday I had some issues with the pics. :/
I'll keep an eye out for it. Misplaced parts? not sure I follow, but thanks for the critique. |

Monkey Business! All monkeying aside, nice design. I like the way the weapons were attached and the wrist guns are very nice. Well done! ^Blub^
Thanks, I was toying with photo shopping a shot of him firing them but decided I'd prefer to present most of the shots unedited.

Well, I can see you're rearing to get started. :P Nice work on this, I can definitely see that you've put some effort into the presentation and the mech itself. However, the design itself is a bit unusual and could use a bit of refining, particularly the joints, as many of them seem to be only rotate one or two directions. Contest rating: 3/5
to be fair the range of movement on the arms and legs is increased by a biceps and thigh swivel. I thought the shots showing him hanging and targeting the PAW guns showed that fairly well.
Can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with. |
