The Flying Dutchman rises from the water, to take your soul....
One hundred years before the mast, thats your debt by Davy Jones.....
About this creation
This is my 3rd take on the infamous ship from the POTC series, the first one was a more personal ship, cause I built it entire out of my own lego collection, it didn't look right, and was rainbow. So after a year (2007) I destroyed that version, don't have any pictures of it, and then it struck me, my interest was just gone for this ship.... Just gone.
The was until POTC 4 came out and I started watching all previous movies again and saw it shine once again. So I went in LDD and made an entirely buy-able Flying Dutchman, and what do you know, it looked like nothing...
Then, I just got the spark, everything else was thrown aside and I took the actual BLUEPRINTS (yeah they do have it, you can find it easy on the internet) and just started building, for days. And the result may be there mate I tell you that!
First version (buyable one)

Second one

This will be the final version of the ship.

DETAIL + STORY TIME!
GRIM REAPER:

The classic Grim Reaper, not that hard to make, but to make it look in-scale with the ship, is a different problem. But I did a pretty good job, if I say myself. The arms were the hardest part to do because of the whole bone structure going on there.
THE BOW:

When I started building the ship, the bow was THE first part that I made, the lower jaw to be exact. Everything was easy, until I needed that second bow piece, was hard to place until I figured it out HOW you had to place it.
TRIPLE BARRAL GUN:

One of the more easier parts, after figuring out how it worked ;) The triple barrel gun IS in a slide to make it retract so you can close the 'mouth' (and add recoil effect) and you see it better how the bow all works together.
TOP DECKS:

Not much going on here. Take note of the little Kraken hammer though. It was 1 of the 2 left overs from the very first version, didn't want to make it go a waste....
All decks are removable (made them that way, but if they still can, is problem 2), and we have the helm off course. Take note the little skeleton feet for the railing, thought it was a nice touch, a reminder for all lost sailors who paid there debt and became part of the ship..
THE MASTS:

Not much to say, they are what they are and they are doing it just fine, still need to add some rigging and sails...
THE STERN:

Ahhh yes, the stern... It was fairly hard to design, so much detail going on. But took the lazy mans way and slapped a going squid on it... The side windows aren't as long as I would have liked, but still, on such a small building place, I made them just as the ones on the real thing. You can see in Jones his cabin, though its hindered by the organ. The lanterns are the second ones of the leftovers.
GUN DECK + PORTS:

The gun ports are placed all 1/3 above each other to make it look real. The height of the canons was build in way later cause I didn't found a way to do it, but after much trail and error I got it, I finally got it. They all look like faces and have seaweed beards, not as the official one, but still. If you need to have seaweed and don't want to make it a floating swamp, its the best way to go! The gun deck however, still needs some work... you got 14 canons and LOADS of cannonballs. You also see the track of the triple gun (for those wondering.
DAVY JONES CABIN:

What can I say, what needs to be there is there. The organ. More I couldn't get in it...
The organ should have 1 row of pipes but I like 2 rows more, just me... The cabin can be entered by the door in the gundeck, and Jones would be sitting there playing it.
So that pretty much covers the whole ship.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and understand the story behind the ship... Its more then a ship to me, the whole story, Davy Jones taking his heart out, it really touched me. Hope to get it in my hands one day (the lego ship that is).
And for random:

Was planning to make this ship a fusion between the Queen Anne's Revenge and the Flying Dutchman with me as captain. Original idea: The lanterns on the Dutchman look like hands, Make a body FOR the hands and build a ship around it. Still a WIP and may finish it one day.

Very nice, lots of improvement, the prow looks a lot better, I think the stern castle should be a bit higher, there are supposed to be two doors between the stairs (near the capstan) so you could make that part a bit higher, that would also allow you to add that upper balcony and perhaps add more detail to the galleries, good job so far
WHat is it with you people not seeing the upper balcony, its there! ok, its really, really small but its there! But I will start working on it, making it longer, bigger and higher, but I have other projects that have more haste then the Dutchman...

i HAAAAATEEE!!!!! LDD build it for real and then we can talk about its any good or not, but for now, i like the bow, you did capture it really nice, and the stern is good aswell (but not accurate at all, you need a second balcon, overall 4/5 becasue the sides is alittle doll, and its an LED whitch i did mentenion earlier i HAAAAATEEE!!!! but a nice job anyways
Well excuuuusse me princess! I don't have all the bricks to build it in real-life, will come once I am 100% satisfied with it. And there is a second balcony, its really tiny an flimsy made but its there. and you may tell me how I can get all the detail in the stern without making it a giant mess. And I agree, the sides need to be a bit better.

There are 2 problems, 1 I don't have nearly all the pieces to get it (pieces can be bought so 1 is solved ;)) 2: I am still working on it, believe me, it will be updated next weekend. (hopefully) |

r u going 2 buy it??
Well thats the ultimate plan, once everything is as I want it, I am planning on buying it. Unfortuatly LDD stops with taking orders and the Dutchman is made in the "Lego Universe" section which gives me more pieces to work with. But you can't buy them. I need to buy it piece by piece from lego.com or bricklink. |

You seem to use an old version of LDD! That's some good work!
to be honest, I have no idea which version of LDD I'm using, though I have updated it every time it needed. |

Very imressive work on the bow.
Thanks mate! And indeed the bow was the hardest, but I pulled it off nicely, if I say so myself. |
