LWC's 1st Year MOCiversary!
Phew!
About this creation

Well, that was quick! It's hard to believe that it's been a year already!

So... where do I start?

When I was four, I got my first lego set for Christmas, it was a Bionicle, and for 3 to 4 years after then I collected Bionicles. Then, I slowly drifted over to Lego system. My favourite themes were Castle (#1, always) and Exo-Force. Sometimes over the summer holidays I would build castle after castle, always in one consistent story of the bad guy getting away when the good guys thought they had won, then he would go and build a new army and return for revenge, and the story would go on and on.

You may have wondered why I have LWC guy for a username. Two years ago, I had the idea of making a Lego club with my friends. So my good friend Tim (The Timinater!) and I made this club, calling it the Lego Watzit Club, the LWC. You've probably noticed that Iím not so great with names, so LWC guy (originally Lwc guy) was the first thing that came to mind when I signed up.

How did I find out about MOCpages? For the LWC, I would send out a unregular newsletter. Once I was away on holiday, so Tim made it for me. Through some Googling he found someone who had posted a MOC of POP set pictures ( the theme was about to come out at the time ). When I saw them, my first thought of MOCpages was that it was a blog type thing for upcoming Lego sets. After about nine months of coming back occasionally, I decided to create my own account. So on December 30th, (I think) 2010, my presence here was made

So I joined MOCpages excited about, well, all of it. I got straight into the flow of things, joining contests and groups.

Bag End, my first MOC. I posted it at the same time along with three others, a castle and two mechs. I hadnít built mechs for a long time, but Iíd seen some cool ones when I joined, and fancied myself a Mech builder. I also thought of myself as a LOTR builder, and this was originally called bilbos house, (no capitals, no apostrophe! Garrhhhh!!!!) a sign of my LOTR ignorance.

The other three MOCs I posted. The building style I came in with wasnít my usual style, I had already been influenced by MOCpagesí MOCs.

My first contest entry, for the Cliffhanger Contest. This was also the first group I joined. the next one was The Fellowship of the Brick.

My next MOC worth mentioning. mini castle (still no capitals. Oh, the pain, the shame) went up to be my most popular MOC.

After some random stuff I started making flexible minifigures, later to turn into a contest.

I made a replica of my airsoft gun, and, to my knowledge, this was my first MOC to make it to the homepage. It went up to be one of my most popular.

It was about this time that I fell. I started sharpie-ing, modding, dark times overtook me. I was modding weapons, and now is when I regret my foolishness the most. During this era a lot of honest and innocent Lego pieces were tortured to the utmost impurity under my cruel hand.

Amidst numerous contest entries came The Cool Leg Technique (terrible name, I know(and originally it was capitaless(gee, I should use real words))). A version of it is non-purist, and this took over as my most popular, and only just left the top three a few months ago.

Then came my first contest, the great ďouchĒ contest! (no capitals!) The great ouch contest lasted the month of February, and at the end had around 30 entries. Because when I started this contest I had only been here a month, I was surprised at itís success. It will likely be repeated this coming February. (maybe earlier, so that the judging doesnít get mixed up with the MOCathalon).

It was about then that I joined The eXtreme TFOLís, which is pretty much the only group I am currently active in, and itís really taken off since the start.

After that was some interesting MOCs, a couple of contest entries, some of my first good landscapes, the end of the world, and then the mighty MOCathalon!

My first MOCathalon entry took position as my most popular and held it until recently, my second entry was an epic fail, and the rest were fairly good. I landed in with a great team;

Owl
Ryan Hanson
Bob The Almighty
Stormbringer.

Thanks guys!

Iím pretty sure that I actually came in a few hours after the games had already started, but I put my name down in the sign up thread, and the Lethal Donuts (go Lethal Donuts!) had just lost their 5th player, so jumped in with them.

Shortly after the MOCathalon, MCLegoBoy! and I were promoted by MR.Lego to Moderators in the eXtreme TFOLís. The group has really grown over the last few months, and recently hit the 10,000 comment mark.

I joined the Iron Legacy, everyone was enthusiastic about it, and it was fun while it lasted, but it seemed to fall apart after the first few missions. during the Iron Legacy amp came some nice MOCs, though:

A drive through the country was an experiment with a curved SNOT road, it turned out pretty good. I was disappointed that it didnít get more attention though.

A contest entry for The Australian And New Zealand group, Christchurch Earthquake was my next MOC worth mentioning.

By now I had made a few flexible minifigures, so I made a contest, The Flexible Fig Contest. This was probably my best contest. It was organized better than the great ouch contest and The Brick-Built Bike contest,(more on that later) and it ended up with 70 entries.

I made instructions on how to make a flexible minifigure for the contest, and it still holds itís position as my second most popular.

Half way through may I tried my hand at a BBB (brick-built bike).

The next notable MOC, Guerilla Ambush. It was an entry for a three-way MOC-off with The Timinater! and Christian H. This was also when I started to capitalize the titles of my MOCs. Yesss!!!!!!

The MOCie awards came, and I ended up as YFOL of the year! This was really encouraging. Over the MOCies I didnít post any MOCs due to not having a computer, (only an Ipad) and shortly after my MOCs started to change.

I had been looking around Classic-Castle alot, and this is when I returned to my old love for the Castle theme, starting with Castle. After that, I focused on larger MOCs, mostly more castles.

This is around when I created LegoBlog.Net, a blog for Lego news, MOCs, etc.

After a few more castle MOCs came the MOColympics!

My round 1 entry seemed to be slightly overrated, and took position as my most popular, where it still stands. It was also my first MOC to reach the explore page. Yes!

My goal was to get to round 3, and get there I did, so Iím happy with my run.

Since I had been watching Classic-Castle for a couple of months now, I decided it was time to join.

Then came my third contest, (which is currently in the judging stage) The Brick-Built Bike Contest. I had been planning this contest for a while, and I decided to create it towards the later rounds of the MOColympics and MIT. Unfortunately, it hasnít been quite as popular or well organized as the previous contest.

My first MOC with photo editing, and probably my best Castle MOC so far. Tower Of The Elven Mage (donít you just love the capitals?) was an entry to CCC IX on Classic-Castle. The CCC lasts two months, so Iím a bit annoyed that I could only get one entry in. Iíve been working on another, but I donít have time to finish it.

This is when the Extreme TFOLís reached the 10,000 comment mark, which goes to show how the group has really grown.

So, 112 MOCs, later, here we are. Itís funny to note that I built more than twice as many creations in my first 6 months than I did in my second. Recently, my MOCcing speed has slowed down considerably. Iíve only posted two creations this month! (which is very little compared to how fast I built earlier this year).

Iíve come a fair way, but I couldnít have done it without you guys. Yes, I hate that soppy, cheesy, corny stuff too, but itís true, so hereís a few people Iíd like to give a shout out to:

The Timinater - A best mate in real life, a great builder and really encouraging. Thanks man!

The eXtreme TFOLers! - All you guys in the eXtreme TFOLís! Especially my fellow Admins and Mods:

MR. Lego

Seth

MClegoboy!

Legofreak2224

Thoy Bradeley - A fellow Kiwi, an amazing builder and the inspiration to a lot of my creations.

Blake Baer - Encouraging and an inspirational builder.

Iíll add more, but Iíve been typing this out for ages now, so Iíll leave it there Ďtill tomorrow.

Itís been an awesome year guys, and have a merry happy new year!

LWC.
