LEGO Halo Warthog v.4 on LDD
The all new Warthog, now upgraded for Halo 4!
About this creation
Hello guys! I was very close to hitting the mark, but I must settle for a belated Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and otherwise Happy Holidays for all of you MOCpagers out there. Also, a wish for everyone to have a Happy New Year. You might has well had enjoyed this December 27, because it's the last one you'll ever have! (Just kidding...the world wont end in 2012, guys)

As you may have noticed, and maybe leaped for joy, I got back into the LDD string of things with a totally updated Warthog! The reason for this is because I was on vacation to visit relatives in Philly this Christmas holiday, and since I couldn't bring my physical bricks with me to tinker with on the trip, I just decided to make stuff in LDD instead. And this, after a long time of examining Warthog screenshots and scrapped methods, is the result of my handiwork.

I decided to remake my Warthog because the release of Halo 4 probably was going to mean a new design--and so, a new design I have. However, since the Halo 4 Warthog prototype renders were few and far between, I just decided to combine elements of the H4 'hog with the most recent of the franchise, the Halo 3 Warthog, while also throwing in some ascetic details from the Halo Reach 'hog, another good template for basing this thing on. It's also got a new chassis that's much more stable than the last three versions I've released, and it is now correctly sized.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the pure paradise that will flow into your eyes as you scroll down. If you happen to have kept your eyes from falling out of their sockets over the course of this display, I'd like to ask you to please rate and comment and put this up in the higher end of my creationary successes. Thanks!

Overhead view. The Warthog is primarily black body with regular green armor, as seen in the Halo 4 renders.

Front. While it may be awesome to some and revolting to others, the hood is the main improvement of this Warthog in my opinion.

Side. I used an all-new armor design for this part, in order to capture the hard lines and uniform green coloration on the side armor.

The hood and the windshield. You may have recognized that I have brought back my Rocket 'Hog windshield into this new version, and the hood has now been altered using a lot of inspiration from Newt King's warthog--he's inactive, but check out his 'hog anyways--and his method of adding more angular points to create a fully sloping and accurate hood shape. While I was unable to capture the simplicity of his because of color limitations, I certainly think it's a good effort here.

On the underside of the hood, we see the brick-built rope spool and the tusks. If only those tooth pieces were in silver...

Driver's cabin, which hasn't been altered much from the last version, except that it is more to scale with minifigures and is a bit cleaner.

Seats, back, and the beginning of the truck bed.

More details of the truck bed, and the rotating platform for the machine gun that is mounted on the back. Instead of the angled plates, I was forced to use the 1x3 green slopes to capture the truck bed connection, which although fits in nicely, does not look as good.

Back. I redesigned this part to look more like the official Reach renders than last time (I sorta improvised on the back due to a lack of Reach renders at the time of the rocket 'hog's construction)

The wheel connection, sporting a similar suspension system to my Reach 'hog (not my rocket 'hog) from way back when. I'm not sure how effective it is in real life, but it looks like it's stable enough for mild to moderate play if anyone actually bought the thing.

Finally, the "roof" (or skeleton of it), and the upgraded gatling turret. Since I upgraded my UNSC weapons a few months ago, I used the new design i made for my machine gun and modified it a bit to fit right on the stand of the Warthog's bed, which came out rather nicely.

Proof that minifigures can now a) touch the steering wheel when sitting upright and b) see through the windshield. Man, I've been working at those two for hours, testing out different elevations of the seat and seat construction methods before finally succeeding with this one. Somebody bring me some cookies!

A final shot of the regular Warthog. She's a beauty.

BUT WAIT! There's more! Scroll down to feast your eyes on...

...the Snow Camo Warthog! Straight from Halo 3, utilizing the same design you just saw, but with different coloration. And yes, this snow camo edition IS available for purchase on LDD, since I made sure that all pieces are good to purchase.

A back shot. To give you an overview of the change, most of the green has been changed to light stone or white, and the black has been changed to dark grey. Constructio-wise, there is no change to this Warthog.

And here's the final version, the LDD-extended born video-game accurate Warthog. It's obviously not for purchase because these pieces are impossible to acquire, but I made it cuz it really looks like it should in the video game.

The grey minifig-cape-thingies have been changed to transparent to mimic lights, and the tusks are now a metallic dark grey (steel) color. Great for tearing up enemy Lego Covenant forces.

Colors have been uniformly spread out over the armor, and the windshield has been made transparent, because...well, windshields are transparent. :D

Overhead shot.

Here's a group shot of all three 'hog versions I made. Which one is your favorite?

Comparison shot with my second most recent version, the Rocket Warthog. The new one has been sized down to scale with minifigures, has been recolored to suit Halo 4 renders, and looks much more uniform in terms of the green-and-black segregation.

Comparing the same two, from the front.

My UNSC ground fleet so far! It's been a long time since I've worked on any of these minus my 'hog. The Mongoose is in good shape, probably isn't changing anytime soon. The Cobra is tricky--I think it can be altered a bit to look better, but I really don't want to do anything to it because it can transform and transforms very well. The Grizzly and the Rhino both look crazy awesome, and I won't be changing those anytime soon. The Scorpion is also well built and I'm very happy with it, but since Halo 4 is coming out, I'm thinking that it may get a facelift sometime soon. The Elephant in the back, as you can see, is STILL incomplete, for I stopped working on it; maybe I'll muster the effort to complete it. Finally, my Wolverine is completely trash; chances are it'll be the first one to get scrapped and redone if I ever decide to redo it. And as you can see, my Warthog is the star of the show! :D

A comparison that has reigned through the Halo Universe since the first day of the war--'Hog vs. Ghost.

A final parting shot with all three. Instructions for the trio have been included at the bottom for good measure--consider it a late christmas gift! Remember that LDD shuts down in early February of next year, which means that all orders must be put in by Jan. 16...so don't miss your chance.

What am I saying! I sound like a freakin sleazy salesperson.

Anyways, please rate and comment, and tell me about this new 'Hog. I'm proud of it, and I really hope you guys are too. Thanks, and a Happy New Year to all!

Quoting Kendall Fischer Dang, that's a good warthog. But look up Halo warthog on Forza 4, its from 2554, same time as halo 4
I believe that's where I got some Halo 4 renders...but thanks for the insight anyways. Glad you like it!

Quoting Justin L. I am jealous that you know how to do these things in LDD. :P Maybe a tutorial...? I think if you redid the Elephant that would be cool.
Well, the only tip I can give you about this one is that it took A LOT of time...which means a lot of builds scrapped and redone. I built this 'hog in 12 hours over the span of about 3 days, and I probably had at least 10 different 'hog designs that I scrapped before settling on this one. And the elephant? Maybe I'll get to it. :D

Quoting JS Can Not a HALO guy, but as an LDD guy, I like it. Also, I believe LDD will keep running, it's just the Design By Me ordering that will shut down.
Hmm, never thought of that. Even though i dont use LDD too often, I hope it can still stay active for times like these when i dont have my bricks with me.

Quoting Eric 'Dragon Born' Mickle Very nice work here! I love the hood, it's unlike the 90% of Lego 'hogs that feature a flat, BORING hood. The only part I don't like is the under-carriage, good things it's on the bottum, out of sight. Great Job! BTW, I sent your cookies in a flat-bed; but the truck was somehow... run off the road somehow. >Eric
Aww man...well, if anyone else has emergency spare cookies, now is your chance to put them to good use. :D

This is a major improvement.g Good to see you back on the pages again. Need anything done for the comics? Or is that not being continued?

Now I don't usually comment on LDD, or stuff like this, heck I don't even play Halo! But from what I've seen on MOC (Yup, lots of Warthogs out there...), I think this has to be one of the best! Great body shape to it, I love the undercarriage and roll cage too. Everything looks nicely bulky, just the way a military vehicle should be! The different color schemes were nice to see, too. Nice job!

This is very well made! Alas, I like the sand green one best, but those pieces are, as you say, impossible to obtain. Also, I think Halo 4 might have some other stuff. Like, get rid of the Warthog, and the Scorpion, and the Ghost, and all those things. 'Cause really, he's on this gigantic alien thing outside of the galaxy. At least that's what I'm hoping.
