A few things I've been messing about with the past few weeks; I'm sharing them because I felt the need to post SOMETHING.

About this creation

Our main photo is, of course, a scene from the latest episode of Space Pirates. A few of you out there may be wondering exactly how I did this. It was simple, really. I rode along on the shuttle as they approached the Shenandoah and I snapped the picture. No, not buying that? Ok, I did it in Photoshop. I took a picture of the Shenandoah, then snapped a second picture looking out from the cockpit of the shuttle. Using the pen tool, I carefully created a path around the fig's heads and the cockpit window to delete it (don't use the magic wand tool for this type of work -- it isn't as precise). Then I added a new layer to the Shenandoah pic, pasted the second shot onto the new layer and I was done. About 20-30 minutes of my time start to finish.

If you're a Flickrite as well as a MOCpager, then you may have seen the new classic space rovers group. If you haven't, check it out. Rovers are fun! This is my first one, which doesn't have a name. Let's call it "Fido" because I'd never name a dog "Rover."

This is a fueling unit that may or may not appear in Space Pirates someday ... it also may or may not be tinkered with a bit more. It's simple, but I like it. I like simple. Why do you think I'm friends with Phipson and Kelso?

The Rambler was the first rover employed by the CSA (Classic Space Agency) on the moon. A tough and dependable machine, those early models are still being used by the moonbillies in the backcountry of the moon, far away from the huge bio-domes.

The final shots are sketches of a possible cockpit design for a starfigher or something. I'm terrible at designing cockpits and Lego's bizarre cockpit domes don't help much either. You may never see this garbage again, but don't bet the house on it. I tend to post a lot of crap that should never see the light of day. After all, I'm sure you've read Glomshire Knights!

I love those classic space vehicles. I simply adore the classic yellow spaceman, he is so cute. Good luck with designing the enemy craft.

You can't beat a well done photoshop and this one certainly qualifies. Maybe one day I'll figure it out for myself but until then I'll stick to the old fashioned way of photos with good backgrounds. Old school space buggies never go out of style. Having just crossed into the realm of the 40-somethings myself I can remember the days when even building one of these would be a major feat not to mention requiring most of my bricks back then! Lastly I can't agree more about lego canopys and the pain to use them effectively. Maybe slap a big ole gun on one side while keeping the other side slick with curved bricks. At least with space ships they can be lop-sided and still function so long as atmospheric drag isn't a concern. Aw the heck with it. Just go with what looks good. It's lego for crying out loud!
