A classic doll's house done in the Georgian style. Fit for a family of Maxifigs...
About this creation
Lego's Modular sets and the building style they inspire are great things. Small and incredibly detailed... I fancied doing the exact opposite...
This follows the late 18th / early 19th Century Georgian style of architecture, with it's relative plainness and emphasis on proportion. The decorative exuberance of the Victorians would come later.

I'd have done the back half as well but for some reason I ran out of red bricks... well, this is 55 bricks tall, 64 studs wide and 30 deep with 4 stud thick outer walls... Still, it does include working lights and sliding brick-built sash windows.
Someone's coming home...

'Come on in! I'll give you the tour..'

'I bet my brother's watching TV. He usually is...'

'Hey! It's always the same thing on the box, and I can't find the remote..'
'You could always do something...'

'He's right - it is always the same thing on TV...'

'Our dining room.. I'd get you something to eat, but the kitchen's in the back half of the house, which apparently doesn't exist...'

'Dunno how I got here, what with the stairs being in the back of the house... Why's the bathroom light on ?'

'Must you always disturb me when I'm taking a bath Geoffrey ?' *

'Oops!'

'Hey, sweetie! Is your kid brother behaving himself ?'

'I hope so - he'd better not be wrecking that nice doll's house you made for me!'

'Let's see what he's up to in the playroom..'

'What are doing fella ? Hang on, what's that on the bottom shelf ? Doesn't that belong to Leda ?'
'Yeah, dad, but have you seen the cost of shipping to New Zealand!'

'And have you been playing your war games in your sister's dolls house again ?'
'No dad. I made a little one to put in it with my Lego...'

'Wow. He's being nice. I didn't see it coming...'

And there we are. Here's a view of the whole rear of the house, including the dolls house, in a dolls house, in a dolls house.... in the house. It's a Russian dolls house, then...

Let's talk about tax. When houses in this style were built, there was a window tax in force in the UK (it was finally repealed in 1851). Existing houses had many windows bricked in as a result, and contemporary houses would have few, but large, windows and the occasional fake... I can't believe this kind of thing fooled many people.

I went to the trouble of building a toilet, complete with aptly named 'log' piece in the bowl. I won't show you, it's enough for you to know that it's there...

A bit of detailing around the front door...

Usually, I build with what I've got (don't feel too bad, that is a lot..), but for the slate roof I finally succumbed to Bricklink... 470 new black tiles!

I really enjoyed making this. Thanks for watching!

* With thanks to A_FLYING_BANANA for that one!

I love the m-figs too now, you have a way to make them shine, and they re now so unique, it s refreshing to see pieces with them, as for the house, it simply makes me wish you had more bricks to go to the lenghts you d really like to acheive, still, it has it s charms, with the lights and numerous details, great work nick! |

Impressive! The scale is amazing, and all the details like the tower bridge and hidden window are fantastic. I'm surprised the sides aren't covered with studs, great work! |

This is splendid! The frontage is very realistic, the backage is ummm....missing lol Those sash windows are fantastic, just like the real thing. I love the guided tour with your humour and the details in the kiddies/AFOLs room are my favourites. I'd like to build a garden for this :-). Also 470 black tiles = very worthy purchase, nice shiny roof, I'll probably need double that for my JPS transporter :-( |

It's wonderfull! And a great tour of the house. I'm beginning to like this maxifigs more and more (as opposed to being a kid, where I couldn't stand them as they were 'oldfashioned'. Most of all, the sliding windows got all my attention. |

Can I get credit for calling the Russian dolls thing. I DID see it coming with
your trucks. Starting from Nick scale and on down. This is lovely work through and
through. I'd call it stately instead of plain. Now, with regards to your tastefulness
in your various bathroom scenes, it does bring up the question if you belong among us.
We'll form a jury on that one later. Now get back to work on your next killer car
project. ;^}
It's true - he did! The bathroom's the best room in the house; so many things you can do in there ;-) |

Wow Nick! Seeing a model in this scale really makes me want LEGO to produce these figures once again. All of the details in this are superb - the Tower Bridge, the Unimog, superb! And if your house in real life is large and red then you would have a house in a house in a house in a house ;) |

Nick it's wonderful. And a welcome break from building cars I bet. You have captured the period and proportions perfectly. Don't mention window tax - the government might be listening ;). Love the door, the windows, the fake window... I could go on and on. Nice micro transporter too. Prefect moc. Say hi to A_flying_banana for me. :) |

What a lovely MOC!! Hang a wreath on the door and it'd make a great Christmas centerpiece too. Love the little Unimog, Ecurie Ecosse transporter and dolls house, with another dolls house inside it, which presumably... ow - that gives me a headache. Anyway, fabulous stuff. 10/10 |
