Ive been on a little kick of making a setting to go with my aircraft, and this time I decided to go with Henderson Field, the home of the famed "Cactus Air Force" on Guadalcanal. Before Guadalcanal, there never really was a sustained air campaign where American fliers lived on an airfield subject to attacks by land, air, and sea, and constantly faced the enemy in aerial combat. Henderson Field was extremely close to the front lines, and had to be defended by all hands on occasion. The valor of the Marines that fought on the ground on Guadalcanal was unquestionable, and so was that of the aviators. Joe Foss was one of them, arriving at Guadalcanal in fall 1942. Foss quickly showed his exceptional skills as a fighter pilot. In the few months he was in action, he downed 26 enemy fighters. Foss would be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions.
Thanks everyone! I bought a few more large green baseplets so I continue with this. It's hard to see, but there is actually a little bit of terrain and elevation change where the trees are. I'm going to continue that, and add a bit more elevation changes.
