Trinitaur, Titan of the Highplanes - Somniferrian Terrestrial
Welcome back to the wild reaches of Somniferria, and thank you for your visit! Here, then, is the fourth among the Somniferrian surface races cataloged thus far. The translated data identifies it as a "Trinitaur". PLEASE RATE AT THE TOP, if you will, and/or in your Comments, which I welcome and appreciate. THANKS for looking, and I hope you Enjoy!
About this creation

So recently rocked by their recent discovery deep beneath the Somniferrian surface, our researchers have returned topside to find their colleagues' newest discovery: a second life-form, out on the northern Highplanes of the planet's central landmass. Archived Precursor lore has designated these savage and nomadic creatures as 'Trinitaurs'. But, these creatures, under observation remotely, proved to be very, very different from all surface life discovered thus far! ...We'll get back to that, brave readers. Read on!

Physically, they tower over even their nearest neighbors, the FrostHulkes, with whom they are theorized to have a common Ancestor (this is under heated debate: part of the Data recovered appears corrupted - it may be some time before more solid conclusions can be drawn) nearly dwarfing all but the very largest among the 'Hulke tribes.

As the Emberhawkes rule the Skies, it appears the Trinitaurs hold dominion over the Reaches, all the way from the Hulkes' southern borders to the northern forests of the Umbravores; they are the undisputed Titans of the Highplanes).

The first major discovery of note; the Trinitaurs, sharing many traits with the long-extinct Bisons of Sol-Three, have by FAR the largest territorial migrations of any surface race on this planet. They are also by far the most rare, apparently endangered, ironically, even as they are discovered.

(As far as 4th wall early commentary goes: this MOC is between O.G.R.E. and Magmael in scale - without legs splayed and fully erect, it measures 14" Tall X 11" Deep(nose to retracted tail) X 8" Wide(shoulder to shoulder). OR, you can just cheat and scroll aaaall the way to the bottom for a look =P (Just be aware that Trin's kneeling for those 3 shots)).

Our second major find: even as specialized as all the surface races thus cataloged are - they have been invariably primal and savage - but the Trinitaurs, incredibly, have evolved the ability to use Tools! Namely, they apparently favor the use of massive spears, glaives, and halberds; such as the one fashioned from the spine of some giant beast as yet undiscovered, shown in these frames...

Doubling as weapons and walking staves as these fierce omnivores roam their huge territories, they employ them to deadly effect upon their aggressors, and prey.

While this of course denotes higher intellect, their savagery is exponentially more potent, especially compared to their relatively peaceful northern neighbors, the 'Hulkes.

Additionally ALL surface Somniferrians have developed sophisticated biological conversion of metallic elements and Cosmic Radiance - only the Trinitaurs have used energy converted in this way to MORE than one end - the exothermic reactions so commonly employed ARE present, (in an incredibly specialized projectile weapon seen later in these archives), but additionally, evidence exists that these creatures have achieved MASS ACCELERATION through that selfsame process!

Through this energy conversion, the Trinitaurs are capable of achieving AMAZING overland speeds, through graviton and cellular mass inversion!

Traversing their massive territories would normally have been unfeasible due to their small numbers, but as long as their inner reservoirs are fully charged, they can cross the Reaches at shocking speeds to police their own borders, and stay longer in hospitable lands before seasonal migrations, due to massively reduced travel times.

4thWall: I was inspired by the 'Bison-like' appearance, once I'd tinkered with this HF helm, and what evolved from there was clearly linked to that early idea: Nomadic tribes of fiercely territorial plainswalkers, a small, but very important, evolutionary step ahead of their surface-dwelling Somniferrian compatriots.

I am, admittedly, very proud of many parts of this build, including the head and shoulders, shown here in greater detail. Silver/Grey/White/Orange WAS the intended Color Scheme, btw: if any of you catch the GREEN or BLUE parts (other than the Hero Core, of course), then Kudos to you! - it means I failed to Coloredit them in PS! =)

Here are the first of a few looks at the shoulder-spheres: the Trinitaurs' adaptation to radiation-absorption.

In their case, three major reservoirs (a trait from which their Names are derived); one for the Somniferrian sun, Lumen Prime, and two for a pair of the trine Somniferrian moons (lunar bodies named 'Unis', and 'Lurien', specifically (apparently only the Umbravores can use light from the third moon, Phobos).

I love the idea of hexipedal Centaur-like creatures, and here is one of the cleaner shots of this, as this Trinitaur bull lifts his face to the horizon.

Here's a look at the dorsal cage assembly and Centaur-like spine armatures: these are the arrays that helped hold the trapezial shoulder spheres, and the spinal Solar sphere - in my imagining; I see the crystalline arrow 'quills' drawn always from the shoulder reservoirs, and exothermic or mass conversions drawn from the spinal orb.

The creatures bear a strong bison-like column of dorsal musculature, owing to the necessary dedication to constant use of their heavy forelimbs in both melee and fine-motor work.

Here's a third look, bearing explanation, of the ballista arm: I intended 1) an asymmetrical MOC, w/specialized limbs, and 2)an arm that showed a step up in evolutionary tool/weapon-manipulation - a Projectile!

Detail of the Ballista Arm will be covered in later frames, but here is a closer look at it with the arms fully deployed, just before being charged...

...and here, leveled at an an opponent, either as a Threat Display, salutation, or delivery of a killshot.

4thWall: I loved the idea of a weapon that could be gracefully retracted, then drawn, compound-Bow-style, much like the armscythes of Magmael and FrostHulke.

As noted before, the creatures live their entire lives in the open, constantly bombarded by, and therefore in constant supply of, both Lunar and Solar Radiations. Here, a bull saturated with Solar radiance gleams beneath Lumen Prime, storing rays for later use.

(4thWall: ...and, Here again, without Titlesplash)

...as in Mass/Graviton Inversion, just before delivery of a Charge with LOCOMOTIVE force. These remarkable creatures actually seem to cancel the Inversion just before Impact with a target, so that the blow itself is delivered with the momentum of several tons of Biosteel behind it! The reinforced dorsal 'hump' is actually aided by the pectoral and dorsal musclemass in promoting the bull's center of gravity FORWARD, ensuring a devastating smash with every collision.

The dorsal mass holds the spine rigid during impact, protecting the Trinitaurs' spine while distributing the entire bodyweight into the blow. Fullgrown bulls can kill enemies with a single ramming strike - pulverizing bone and liquifying tissue... and this is their most primitive attack!

...Earlier submitted - 'ramming' charges are only one of these fierce creatures' offensive measures - and they are clearly an aggressive species. Territorialism at its purest, their incredibly wide-ranging borders are jealously, and lethally, patrolled.

The data proving their use of giant hand weapons was a shocking find; not only in their ability to manipulate implements as weapons, but also in the fact that these weapons are clearly crafted from salvaged materials. A Somniferrian life-form, with evidence of primate-level reasoning, that crucial step beyond simple animal Cunning.

Truly amazing - and a fact that has caused us to regard the Somniferrian Surface Races with completely new eyes...

Not to lessen the brutal efficiency of the concept, we do not downplay the use of Exothermic Charging in Somniferrian creatures (as shown here): it is simply a common thread among all races thus far discovered - effectively we, as researchers, expect it, now. Apparently Somniferrian surface races were FORCED to adapt to radiation bombardment. What was once a Trial for survival, the adaptation seems to have become an Asset, instead. The hardy survivors that have done so, have flourished.

4th: A simple Topdown view, showing what made the waist articulation possible, and full hexipedal locomotion.

...and another showing the solar reservoir's 'cage', and the floating shoulder reservoirs, assigned just behind each pauldron's armor.

Below, you will see a frame-by-frame of the amazing bioprojectiles the Trinitaur uses, evidence of yet another evolutionary innovation on the part of this unique species.

Pardon the scientific narration, or if you like, skip this next section:I simply liked the idea very much, and thought I'd explain how I justified a 'grown' weapon of this complexity. Enjoy, or not, at your discretion =)

It works like this:
First, the deployed ballista, and articulated hand are suffused with SOLAR radiation from Lumen Prime and LUNAR radiation from Lurien and Phobos are charged and collated in bundles of grown fiberlike filaments, coiled in the shoulder reservoirs, nearly gelatinous in texture...
...and the readied strands are drawn from apertures in the shoulder spheres, the clear gelid filaments hardening into diamondlike crystalline shards as the charged chemical comes in contact with the atmosphere, plucked free and lengthened into elongated shards, each unique - appearing as so-called 'Glass Needles' as they harden instantly in the Somniferrian air...

...each is deftly lain across an incredibly high-tensile biosteel filament coil, draped between the far points of the ballista armatures, slack until tensed from absolutely unique musclefiber tubules extending from the 'bow' quite literally throughout the creature's entire body. Why? For the doubling and re-doubling of muscle contractions along these channels that provide resistance for the 'bowstring' filament - at full contraction, an estimated Drawstrength in the THOUSANDS of pounds! At that draw-weight, charged shards are capable of ballistic trajectories estimated in excess of two MILES...

(Back into 4thwall Commentary), and Breaking Free from the scientific explanation here, let your imagination do the rest of the work -
so, what's it all mean? Well - essentially:

...glowing, diamond arrows, that can fly for miles.

..If you'll pardon the Geek-errific Conceit of all this. =) I believe the appropriate expression is 'reasonable suspension of Disbelief'... for which, I thank you in advance. =) Again, I don't take myself too seriously: you probably shouldn't, either.

A basic shot under the varying light produced by waxing and waning mixtures of the trine moons, from whence some of their power stems.

4WC: This is as good as a time as any to talk about weight distribution. This build went well, riiiiiight up to the point where the final pieces arrived from BrickLink. This piece likely weighs around 2 lbs. On fabric, this hexiped stands impressively, even to the point that no more than three out of six legs need contact the ground to balance well.

And then, one moves one's Trinitaur MOC to a smooth surface...

...and things begin to be less awesome. Simply put, gang, it weighs enough to spread the legs, under the pressure of its own weight. While I loved the look of the crustacean-like legs, the tips glide along any smooth surface. Just wanted that out in the open. On any fabric, it's amazing fun to pose - on gloss, it's a nightmare.

4thWC: You may also notice a few shots with elastics employed. These were early attempts to create enough resistance in the hips of the legs to draw the crablike tips of each leg into a naturally-retracted position (akin to your curled fingers just as you are balling your hand up to make a fist).

I also used a set in the Ballista Arm to behave like normal radial tendons, to help counteract the heaviness when the ballista's arms are fully retracted (it stayed aloft fine when bow-blades were deployed - I guess it helped spread the weight out).

This fully grown bull issues a challenge display, either to a threat or rival among his herd, weapons fully deployed.

A more minor, but interesting discovery: Trinitaurs appear to have alternating dexterity assignment! (they are foaled either 'Left' or 'Right'-handed) Some bulls observed had developed the Ballista on the left forearm, some, right. As a note, all surveillance probes were destroyed upon attempts to near the herd past the watchful Alpha Males: no images of cows or calves were able to be obtained. Perhaps further surveillance from stationary orbit may be commissioned now that migratory patterns for this species are being plotted...

4thWC: A look at the pistons and haunch assembly.

Trinitaurs are most evenly-matched against their territorial northern neighbors, the FrostHulkes. Their similarities in structure, barring adaptations, make them fit rivals for one another.

Against the long-range precision of the Trinitaurs archery and halberdier-mastery, the southern Umbravores and southwestern Emberhawkes fare far less well. They are common prey, and therefore common metallic resource, when these skilled hunters can single them out from their own respective Packs.

It is ironic to watch the predatory tables reverse themselves, as these rival predators are brought low by the Trinitaurs' specialized gifts.

Perhaps another, as yet undiscovered species, considers even these mighty hunters a reliable foodsource?...

4thWC: I was very pleased with the profile. I was able to make the nesting pieces of the armor underlap, like reverse lorica segmentata, so that the dorsal 'hump' always appeared to be continuous, even with the head turned.

4thWC: A top-down detailed view for the scapula/trapezoidal lunar reservoirs, and dorsal armor.

Here we see a profile view of all three hipjoints, with the spinneret-style 'blasters' that trap the Solar reservoir in place lifted to target a flanking enemy. These too, draw upon the solar reserves to deliver rare exothermic blasts, if ever a Trinitaur bull becomes flanked.

These appear to have a very short range (and a long recharge cycle), but are a nasty surprise for an enemy hoping to attack unprotected haunches.

4thWC: A nice 'come-get-some' pose. I have hinted at the indications of higher intelligence in these fierce warriors - perhaps this includes arrogance, as well? =)

4thWC: A striding pose, showing that nice balance (on cloth, of course), allowing up to three of the abdominal legs in mid-air, as they step forward in their scrambling, spidery-style of locomotion.

While the crystalline arrows are commonly used against aerial foes, the hand-weapons, while always unique to the individual warrior, invariably bear a lance-like tip, ready to find the vitals of terrestrial foes with shocking velocity and accuracy.

A 'crosshairs-view' of the deployed Ballista Arm: the last image this particular Data Probe ever recorded...

4thWC: A full-body left-profile.

4thWC: Truly one of my favorite Profile shots, mid-stride and Halberd readied.

4thWC: Photos I found showed many charging Bison with the tails up. I threw this in as an afterthought. Perhaps it's just for body language/threat displays - not a venomous barb...

4thWC: Erect, relaxed pose with Titlesplash. I tried getting quite a few backgrounds in, to show the wide range of terrains they claimed as territory.

4thWC: This is one of my Wallpapers now. ;) (shape was right for it)

4thWC: ...same without Titles

Combat is joined almost ceremonially among rival Trinitaur bulls, with many gestures of reverence for the act, such as this salute, prior to a Duel between Alphas.

4thWC: One of the clearest shots showing how much the Bison anatomy was derived.

An Alpha, scanning the skies for packs of Emberhawkes, or Weathersign.

4thWC: Detail of the overlapping pair of plates that allows the 'Prong-Arm' (inspired by spiked Scottish Targe shields) to rotate a full 360 if desired.

4thWC: ...and the same detail, as an exterior view. The grip was always sufficient for the Halberd with these b-n-s fingers without dropping, slipping, or use of pegs. I am prone to Claws, personally, but couldn't see the Trinitaurs really needing them, so this was new technique for me to try out.

4thWC: The exterior of the Ballista Arm, fully retracted. Liked how it turned out.

4thWC: I think this one was my Wife's favorite. Sometimes she critiques. =)

4thWC: The dorsal 'cage for the Solar orb. Meant to look a bit ribcage-like, w/the 'ribs' getting more slender as they taper off rounding the hindquarters.

4thWC: A shot with the 'spinnerets' out.

4thWC: Simple erect shot, pausing and scanning the horizon...

4thWC: If only they made those HF longer pieces in White! I wanted you to have a look 'under the hood' here. Simple stuff.

4thWC: Legs splayed, ready to pivot on the front points to fully rotate the body to face a target.

4thWC: The Title pic w/out Splash. Really liked it, was a good shot i.m.h.o. to show climbing, and I liked the blue glow for the Halberd's exothermic charge. A Geek bit to point out here - it would also mean the Trinitaurs were the first Somniferrian race to charge DETACHED organic objects exothermically. Thought that was a neat evolutionary 'trick'.

4thWC: Here, the cunning bull uses the deployed Ballista Arm as additional surface area to absorb Solar radiation when restoring reserves, similar to the techniques deployed using the Tailblades among Umbravores

4thWC: A good Warrior's Salute, with Phobos and one of its satellites in the backdrop, suffused with Lunar radiation.

4thWC: (...same, w/out Titlesplash)

4thWC: Trinitaur, Magmael, and FrostHulke. A simple group shot in a series of shots to show Scale.

4thWC: Currently, gang, this is where all the Somniferrians hang their um, hats (?) Or something. =) The dresser-top Display for the current Somniferrian sextet. (And yes, for the astute among you, I intentionally included 'O.G.R.E.' among that categorization. More Lore on that to come in the days ahead - please be patient, and thank you in advance for that). On this side, O.G.R.E., Frosthulke, and Emberhawke, left-to-right.

4thWC: And from this side (left-to-right): Umbravore, Trinitaur, and Magmael.

4thWC: A final shot, you know the names and order, apologies that the outside pair aren't visible.

4thWC: And, ~finallyfinallyfinally~, a Wallpaper for the Main PC, with the whole gang (minus the big, black, Beast) present and Titled. Not too bad, all in all. =)

You made it to the End! ~whew~ I believe Congratulations are in order! (to YOU, for putting up with this much writing.) Ah, well - I like narrative. At any rate... a few final bits -

YES, I will be finishing up O.G.R.E. ...even if only so I can finally dis-assemble him and stop beating my head against the nearest wall. Likely a January thing. I expect the time through New Years' to be busy for me, and would like to relax a little.

TO YOU WHOM'VE MOC'ed WHILE I WAS UNDER THE TRINITAUR-ain Haze: I owe you reviews, and will be using my time here and there to Catch Up on all your fine Works. Cheers, and another apology for these being over-due.

And finally *gasp* we Finish! - with a grand, and summary THANK YOU for Visiting, Liking, Crit'ing, and Commenting - these are all infinitely valuable to me, and I ask you keep doing to. As in the Intro, I ask you to subscribe to my YouTube channel, and take a look at the created vids - I commit to you return the Favor. Sincerely appreciated, all. Keep the feedback coming, and Thanks Again! CHEERS!!! =)

Quoting ROBOCOP603 MASTER OF BLACK HOLES Sorry I haven't been taking the time to really look at mocs for a bit. However that is beside the point. This is a truly epic moc you have made! I can see that it is seriously complex especially the legs in my opinion. I usually am not terribly thrilled with most white mocs, but this one is one of the few exceptions by far! Kudos to you!
Man, that is Ironic, I have found some of my work in White has been my most successful - it's a weird but cool realization. I got to work in that color so often I had to start limiting m'self. =P Now I really try to space out the builds that use it: Valkyriel has been the most recent... Cheers!~

Quoting Jesse Long In short, Bionicle + Hero Factory + ExoForce + Gundam + Tengan Toppen Gurren Lagaan = Somniferria. Seriously, have you ever considered building mecha? I think that you would be awesome at building such things.
I thank you sincerely for the compliment, but, at least for the meantime, I am going to continue building out Somniferrian ideas as they occur. There are already SO MANY seriously, powerfully GENIUS Mechbuilders, (even just on MOCpages alone), that I think carving out my own BioMOC niche makes more current sense. I see that you build alot of System crafts - have you ever considered branching out into Bionicle/HF? Friction joints are AWESOME, just sayin'... =) THANK YOU for the View, Sir.

Thx Kaiser, appreciate that. As for O.G.R.E. no to tease but, I am likely, because of size, going to have to do that shoot on a tabletop, which will mean getting black and white sheets to cover the windows in that room. We'll see. Cheers!

Quoting CC-3636 "Wolffe" This is SO awesome!I love this guy!(When will the O.G.R.E. be ready???)
TY VERY much, Guys, Cheers! And CC...*sigh* THAT IS the MILLION-DOLLAR question, m8. I shudder every time I think of what it will take. I think I will add what I've got together around January, for Better or Worse, and put it up on MOCpages. Then, possibly, dis-assemble that monster. Ug. TY for the Comments and Rates, m8s!

Quoting Johann Dakitsch Great. Really love its design, twisted and very fantastic (like in fantasy). Altough, I think some colors are a bit off, like the silver and those green sockets on the hand. But nothing serious really.
Parts attrition XO. It gets us all, sooner or later. =P Just ran out of colors I wanted. Corrected in future revision stages I s'pose. Anyway, CHEERS for looking!
