Part 1 of the background to my new Mon Cala sig-fig, Mahela Balaji
About this creation
This is the first part of the story of my new sig-fig. He is called Mahela Balaji and as you can probably see he is a Mon Calamari (and yes Admiral Ackbar IS his best friend...)Balaji was discovered at an early age by (non-canon) Rodian Jedi Master Ankho Valum when on a trip to the planet Dac. He was brought back to the Jedi Temple to undergo training as he had a high midi-chlorian count and was therefore very force-sensitive. Here we have a young Balaji in his early days at the temple
Grand Master Yoda took it upon himself to train most of the younglings (or Jedi initiates) about the basics of the force and lightsaber combat. Mahela Balaji received training from Yoda as part of this

'Learn the ways of the Force, you must.' Good old Yoda
Balaji soon grew up and was assigned as a Padawan to the Jedi who discovered him, Ankho Valum
Here is Ankho Valum... a highly skilled master of Form III and a respected figure amongst the upper echelons of Jedi society
The bond between Valum and Balaji was very close, and they were occasionally called on some missions to dispatch some droids around the galaxy.

One droid just got force pushed :P
Then suddenly, the Clone Wars broke out during the epic battle of Geonosis. Of course, Master Valum and his padawan were there as part of the ring of Jedi inside the arena
Balaji fought alongside Valum and his rival Anakin Skywalker
Ankho uses the force to somehow make a droid disintegrate

Then... Valum was fatally wounded by a blaster shot in his chest. He fell backwards, dead. Balaji was almost overcome by grief, and is seen here checking Ankho's pulse desparately to see if he is alive or not. Even the unflappable Luminara Unduli turns round to see what is going on
The death of his close friend and mentor was a turning point in Mahela Balaji's life. After the Battle of Geonosis, he was promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight by Yoda himself.
After being promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight, Wookiee Jedi Monkubacca was placed as a padawan under the care of Master Balaji. At some point before this photo, Balaji had mastered the art of Jar'Kai, enabling him to wield an extra lightsaber (If you're wondering what this is, its what Ahsoka does during the Clone Wars, she now carries two lightsabers around
Part 2 will be coming soon, including some clones and a perhaps a brush with the dark side of the force...
