Trebuchet for the Avalonia Guild on Eurobricks
About this creation
UPDATE:

An update already? Yes. Made a few functional changes. I think the look is still pretty similar but with the update it now fires!

Check out the youtube video of it in action!

Avalonian trebuchet in action

OLD INFORMATION:

This is a counterwieght trebuchet for the Avalonia Guild on Eurobricks.

This is still a WIP. The biggest thing it is missing (besides some engineers and soldiers) is the sling on the firing arm.

I does not "work", but it looks good not doing it.

It is so nice to see someone take this approach to building a trebuchet. -It has to look good- .I love the weels on the side and the fact that it, well, looks good.

Quoting spearhafoc ... TIP: perhaps you can add a 2x2x6 brick with the iron/lead (or whatever) filling to the counterweight. I believe these were used in the floating ships during the 90'. I'm not really sure if they are still used in the newer sets.
Only in the older sets as far as I know. That weight is too large, plus the one I have is red. In the updated version I went with US dimes inside the counter weight. It really works well!

Man that is a pretty thing! It reminds me of the trebuchet by Aliencat in one of his castle MOCs, but I like this one slightly better. I was struggling to make a decent one. Got some new ideas now. TIP: perhaps you can add a 2x2x6 brick with the iron/lead (or whatever) filling to the counterweight. I believe these were used in the floating ships during the 90'. I'm not really sure if they are still used in the newer sets.

Quoting Ape Fight That looks great. Shame it doesn't work but still 5 stars
Well the counterweight DOES pull the firing arm up when the string is slacked, but the counterweight would need to be much heavier to pull the arm down when the string is spooled up and the firing arm is in position. It would fire if I pushed down on the couterweight, just not by itself. Making the counter weight hevier would require a different construction on the arm holding the counterweight which would probably ruin the look I was going for. EDIT: Did some redesigning. It would fire now if I devised a proper sling with the updates. Slight changes to the look (taller and slightly wider) but still pretty similar.

Very cool! You sure caught the look of the original spot-on. This would certainly look good in any medieval lego-scene.
