Mercedes-Benz O 317 Renntransporter "Porsche Salzburg"
So, at last, after two months of building and several bricklink orders we have a Lego version of Porsche Austrias 1970 Mercedes-Benz O 317 Renntransporter.
About this creation
This is built especially for Ape Fights Classic Race Teams group and boy was it a fun challenge. I chose to build this as i thought it would fit my smooth style well and it's an absolutely stunning vehicle.

It is 22 studs wide and 105 studs long and will fit four cars upto 18 studs wide.
Let's have a little look around...

Everything opens on the transporter, we'll start with the back.

Look at all that lovely white beaminess :-)

I just couldnt resist cramming every little deatil into this MOC.

A few shots with all that opens...

The detailed interior. The seats are a little on the large side (need to be 5 wide ideally).

Those glove boxes open :-)

And what do we have under this beautiful shell?

My most technical technichy chassis. It's a blend of old and new technic and is pretty strong (if a little on the bendy side).

I started this creation in an unorthodox fassion, by starting with the PORSCHE lettering on the side. I didn't start the chassis until i had completely finished the body. This made it tricky to finally Marry the two together. I decided that they won't attach as such, the body just rests nicely on the lift arm struts so I can easy get to the chassis.

This has working steering (although it is not currently attached to anything as yet. I want to attach it to the Merc badge at the front at some point in the near future.

It has a straight 6 working engine, which i love!

And working differential.

I nearly forgot to take photos of the ramp...

One last WIP shot.

We already have one car ready for transportation...Malte Dorowskis' Stunningly beautiful 917k and I am waiting for Dohoon Kims version. My next project is to build one of my own, as the transporter has no purpose without a car to transport lol

Thanks for looking, and please let me know what you think ;-)

Quoting Tanner Bryson Dude, that's seriously awesome!!! I really can't think of anything Lego themselves are turning out... Uhhh... Nope. But seriously, I'm a huge Porsche person and I was wondering: How much would instructions for the 917s and the Renntransporter cost (if anything ;D)? I've been dying for an awesome Porsche Lego set, and this definitely fits the bill, as the 917s are my favorite Porsches of all time. Thanks!
Thanks a lot, I appreciate your comment. I don't make instructions unfortunately and it would take a lot of money to prize these off me, they're my babies lol

It's a pretty classic, almost basic build at some point but what you did with it is amazing. The front... O.K. so the front isn't a basic build but it fits so well into the whole concept. The inside is a thing for itself. I kind of got the feeling that you did this model exactly like it is in the real life. It's clean, it looks like it was build by a Mercedes. The only true resentment is with the mudguards. You could have used the arch bricks but what the heck... it's a matter of taste anyways! beautiful work!

Quoting TiPi . Amazing! That's what I wanted to make, but you beat me to it. What size are those wheels? 43.2 x 22 ZR?
Thanks TiPi, I noticed you had chosen the Martini version, I chose to build this a while back but I was in the moc olympics so was unable to start until the brilliant Nick Barrett defeated me. It was a blessing in disguise because I was able to produce this. Answering your question the wheels are 68.8 x 36 ZR, they aren't perfect but they were the only ones I had that fit the scale. Thanks for your comment and I look forward to seeing yours :-)

Quoting Malte Dorowski today: proposal for improvement... the ramp: integrate functions. possibly with ravishingly beautiful "Technic, Gear Worm Screws"? Just Kidding

Quoting Lego Builders Wow! I'm stunned. Seriously. I just can't find words to describe this. What a superb creation. Yes, definitely your best so far. This is miles better than any of my MOCs. Geez, I dunno what I was thinking when I chose which transporter to build - I'm so extremely rubbish at mosaics! ;( Hopefully I'll get better...
Thanks LB! I can imagine the problem with the Maserati lettering. Try and keep trying and you will get there. It took me a whole night (a very late one) just to make the front grill. But it was worth the time. If you really struggle I would suggest stikers. I cheated and used them for the Porsche badge and I will do it again for my new project (JPS Lotus Transporter). Persistance and patience will get you a long way.

Wow! The true excellence of your model, and at the same time why your model is - in my humble opinion- the best of the race group, is that, however you find indications of the size, whenever you recognize a lego brick (as the lights, as the sign, as the width of the seets), you still have forgotten it when you go to the next picture. Very few models on the pages have the astonishing ability that one forgets it is Lego, just because of the epic quality of the modelling. Very very impressive work, I'm jealous of the immense talent you're showing with this moc. Respect!!!

Quoting Ape Fight Wow wow wow wow! Long awaited but so worth it! This looks absolutely spot on, from the interior to the cargo bay. The front grill and window surround are especially superb (I wish I'd have thought of that technique for the front window rubbers). Your best creation by MILES, and not only that, I think the best of all the transports made so far. 10/10 - welcome to the Classic Race Teams group. Expect a LOT of respect from the community for this build : )
Aww thanks Ape, it means a lot coming from you :-) Can't wait until they're all together!

Oh Yes!! Tomaso it is beautiful. I have watched this take shape over the last few months but the the photos make it look even better. Its funny because it looks a lot smaller in the photos than in real life. I love the chassis and all those technical goodies and details. Stunning Mate, simply stunning. The photos looking in the back are awesome. Have you got any lego left to build the car? Hahaha.
