Variant of Shawn's A7-N1 Ravager Mech.
About this creation
This is the A7-CED Ravager Mech...I'm thinking an urban warfare focused version perhaps?
More words on the differences to come...Haha, So an abbreviated version (below) since Mocpages just kicked me and my 3 paragraphs out. Need to remember to Crtl-C what I write before I click continue...Just keep smiling :)
The brilliant original by Shawn Purkis looking much more predatory and mechwarriorish.
Btw, RGF, I think you've done the named poses thing before, I saw it and liked it. If so, just wanted to thank you.
Alternate armament: laser cannon, machine guns respectively.
Alternate Armor: Reinforced heavy leg plating.

Ok, so...I may have unintentionally taken out the battletech and put in a little robo-tech... Lol, Accident I swear, I was putting plates here and there and before I knew it, It was too late!
Shawn coolest thing I've ever worked on. Seriously, no really and I'm not just flattering. This project has highlighted/demonstrated alot of the function and fun that I feel are lacking in my own projects. Huge thanks to you for posting the instructions and being ok with me fiddling with your design.
As stated above this is an abbreviated difference summary. Legs. I REALLY liked Shawns chicken legs. Mine are bulky not of preference but necessity, This variant uses ball joints, while the original used technic rotater disc thingits which allowed a much slimmer profile. 100% of all other differences between the 2 mechs is related to this. Ball joint = thicker leg = heavier leg = struts = more lego to cover struts & Ball joints = thicker thighs = less clearance around pelvis = I didn't think any arms would fit = top mounted laser cannon instead of missiles = oh wait hands do fit...itty bitty T- Rex ones....with machine guns on the end...
...all because of using a silly little ball joint instead of the technic rotater thingie
Well, ok and then minor changes. Different cockpit, I think that's why the original looks hungrier/meaner. Along the top I switched some studs for smoother surfaces...barely worth mentioning.
Glamour shots!!(poses)

(Above same pose different angle)The "Hang Low"

(Above same pose different angle)The "I'm gonna git you sucka!"

The "Predator" (personal favorite)

(Above same pose different angle)The "Deer in Headlights"

The "Hey look what I can do!! followed by a faceplant..."

This thing is a BOSS! My only nitpick is your photography, the bed in the background is a tad distracting lol. you should invest in a couple sheets of poster board (various colors) and use them as backdrops. Just set it against a wall, so that it curves up the wall. |

Very rarely do I comment on mechs, but this is astounding! Great work, the size, posibility and details are stunning. At first I thought, "Hey, this is pretty cool!" then I realized how big it really was and I was blown away. Phenomenal, just phenomenal. |

Magnificent. Truly a work of art. Obviously they are a Main Feature but; still going to comment on the legs - superb ankle bulk and flexion, I was amazed at the range of motion allowed at that point. I have a love for mechs(while I don't really build them), and this is a fine, fine example of elite design. Cheers! |

Wow Ced this deserves all the comments it's been getting!!! Since a major success, do you think you could spend some time and making us a photoedited masterpiece of the Ravager in a battlescene or something. It would do it justice. Anyway keep it up as always bro.
I think it deserves it too, it easily beat out my most popular, didn't expect that one. Let me think on it a bit, planning a land scene is a bit more problematic that my familiar space ones. Thanks Pete. |

This definitively made my day. I've been really busy with school and work lately and wasn't able to check the pages much this week so I feel really bad for not commenting sooner. I absolutely love it though this was way more then I could have expected. You kept the same feel of my original, but beefed it up to the next weight class. I can see your own style come through the subtle changes like smoothing out the studs up top. I'm somewhat at a loss for words right now If I had to pick a favorite part I would have to say the feet, those just turned out epic. I'll have to like your variant to the original's page. Again Thank you this really made my day after a long week.
Wasn't too sure with the feet and the jointed arms, but I'm really glad you liked it. Thanks again for posting the instructions and letting me be a part of it, it really is an awesome design that I wouldn't have even been able to touch on my own. Hope the rest of your week levels out and a good Thanksgiving to ya next week. |

awesome. how did u get the ball joints to work without the weight of the mech bringing it down? i cant seem to find a good way to use them that way.
Good observation, 1 ball joint definitely isn't enough, it was a big problem initially. I can't say what the best way to do it is, but my solution relied on bracing the weight against static or immovable lego parts(connecting the upper and lower leg)and the use of one of these http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/File:X240.jpg which acts as a strut(on all joints except the pelvis), keeping the weight up, and making sure it doesn't go to far from 1 side or the other. Along with that there are also the ball joints that I started out with initially that also add stability. Good luck! |

oh wow, this is very impressive! a VERY bizarre design. my best attempt to describe this would be "an AT-ST with bell-bottoms and a treadless tank for a head". that's probably one of the most detailed Mechs I've ever seen, quite a feat since I've seen some Mechs with a LOT of detail. I also really like how you did some of the photo-editing effects. overall, an incredible model. Haha, the at-st with bell bottoms part makes me laugh. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks Peter! Shawn's instructions really helped me understand the skeletal structure of this type of mech better. I'd say that'd be a good place to start. Good luck with your comic, as far as pointers go, shoot me a line if you think I can help with something. I think Flickr has a private message function if you'd rather to ask some things in private. |

Gorgeous. This variation looks like a generational difference from Shawn's, like a Mark II to his Mark I. The thicker legs do give it a heavier, slower feel, but you preserved the overall character wonderfully. Those feet are amazing! |

I don't think the style fits the rest of the MOC but I like them generally speaking. I'm not the best person to ask with mechs. I'd be interested to get others thoughts on the feet, do they work, or epic fail? Thanks Andros. |
