Spartacus - Arena Scene
A scene from the 1960 film, 'Spartacus'!
About this creation
This vignette was built in November 2011 for a competition over on Eurobricks. the challenge was to build a scene from a film featuring a Series 5 Collectable minifigure, along with at least one minifig from series 1-4.

Spartacus (armed with sword and shield) is forced to fight to the death with his former sparring partner, Drabo (armed with trident and net) for the amusement of Senator Marcus Licinius Crassus.

Crassus discusses political schemes with his friend Glabrus...

...while the slave girl Varinia, who has fallen in love with Spartacus, watches anxiously.
If you want to see how the fight ends, you can watch it here

Photos without the gladiator, required for the contest. I don't own any sets that contain the official Lego net, so the one Drabo is carrying was handmade by my wife - special thanks to her for going so far to indulge my hobby!

The set without the players.

That's one awesome build! I really like how you did the walls of the arena. The roof and the figs are really cool too!

Quoting Dr. HappyBaboon , PhD Okay, the arena is great, the palisade and roof techniques are perfect, but your minifigs aren't movie accurate. Drabo is an Ethiopian, not Caucasian, and Spartacus has hair. And I may be picky, but Varinia doesn't look much like a girl. It may just be the limitations of your collection, but I think you could do better. Again, your arena bit is great. Keep on brickin'!
All fair comments - I currently have a very limited selection of female minifigs, and I also tend to avoid licensed themes so I don't have any flesh tones (African or otherwise). I know that the scene would be improved if I got hold of some though. Thanks for the constructive criticism!

Nice scene, and roofing techique. I also can't help but notice the arm laying next to the wall...

Looks great! Would have looked better with a Lucy Lawless fig, but what can you do... Well done!

Quoting Nick Barrett Very neat vig - and your wife is a saint.
That she is. She knitted the net for me from black cotton thread while watching 'V for Vendetta' - she said it had to be one of the most surreal evenings she'd ever spent!
