Poseidon - Entry 11 - LDD WIP - Designing the citadel
17157 parts!
About this creation
I've started to design the citadel and inside, the weelhouse.

The hull is now closed at this point. The citadel already comes into 3 modules, allowing removing the main bridge to access inside the hull.

I'm quite pessimistic, to go on on this big build, because Lego Digital Designer is now starting to have some random strange behaviour. Sometimes, it quits without allowing me to save my changes!!! =(

I hope I can fix it soon! I know my graphic driver is crap and can't wait a new one from ATI, hoping to stabilize the software, in order to finish my boat without to fear a crash at each changes! (But I've seen a creation of more that 34000 parts on LDD, so why not my Poseidon?!? =))

Update: Today(the 15th of november, 2011, I've removed the user profile folder of LDD, like I've already done in the past. The program is running tonight with no bug for the moment, and I feel I'm going on "a safer way". I hope my problem is definitly solved!

The 17th of november, 2011: I've quite advanced with canons, I'll show you later!

I'm already thinking about the weaponry, like side balconies onto the citadel, with anti aerial machine guns. I've also thought about some side "bunker style" canons and some hedgehog system for antisubmarine struggle.

I'm waiting your nice comments, advice and suggestion. I hope you'll like this advancement step on the ship!

Please wish me good luck for the remaining!

=)

This is simply unbelievably fantastic! You might need a bigger table along the way it seems :-)I have heard elsewhere on MOCpages that lego is closing their LDD-order line, so i really hope you get the order in before they close it if that is still your plan. If i may make a few humble suggestions regarding weaponry based on my personal preferences i would like to see perhaps one of those 80's style huge naval cannons on it? I know they're obsolete but it would look great! Oh and please put something like the dutch goalkeeper 30mm CIWS on it somewhere too - i know i'm a sucker for those 30mm's but they're just so very devastating against incoming airborne targets! :-D

Quoting Cedekane . Oh man, reading about your problems with LDD makes me cringe. It would hurt to lose so much work! Make back ups if you don't ? Is this how you started your sub also? Do you have plans to make the physical model when your done? Thanks Jay, sweet work, can't wait to see the armaments.
Thanks, buddy! It's quite stable now(I've lost a very small work on starting the two main front canons yersterday, all the grey hull disapeared! lol!) If I backup? I'm a computer IT! =) I'm making a copy regularly of my changes, I do regularly backup onto a NAS and I upload onto MOCpages my last updates!(but I had to upload again all my pics during the site's crash! :-() Last question; YES, that's how i've designed Titan! Regards - Jay

Quoting Green helmet spanish AFOL Hi again Jay. I suppose your ship is a design for the 21st century, according to the propulsion system and my intuition. Current warships rely more on missiles than on guns. So I suggest the following weapon array: -a Vertical Launcher System, with many types of missiles (air-to-surface, surface-to-surface,ASROC). Any recent AEGIS cruiser or the new Spanish and Norwegian frigates use that systen. -For the "hedgehog" anti-submarine weapons, that design is not very complicated. If you search for pics on the internet, you will check that you can create something similar with a 4x4 plate and just adding the "bombs", which would be made with 1x1 round bricks and a cone on the top. Check this and only enlarge it; http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=79496&id=/user_images/14650/12257015791 -machine guns are a good idea too, but maybe for AAA would not do much. -many warships still use a 3" to 5" anti-aircraft/anti-ship gun, you can put one on the bow. Some ideas, hope them work!
Wow! That's what I call ideas and suggestions! I'll try my best to be more in the realistic way than in the fantasy one! And I confirm it's a modern attempt! Many thanks for your comment and advice!

Quoting Eric W. This thing is going to be a beast Jay! So far its looking great. I think Deuce meant to practice building your guns with real LEGO because you cannot make all the types of connections you want on LDD. I also agree with Green helmet Spanish afol about going modern with the weaponry.
Thanks, and for the explaination too! =)

Quoting Deus Otiosus For the weapons I suggest planning guns in ABS, because for details, unofficial connections are better.
Hi Deus! I'm not sur I'm getting you! What do you mean by "guns in ABS" and "unofficial connexions". Do you mean I should make some weaponry not in "official Lego"!? You didn't tell me what you where thinking about the citadel's design! =)
