I can't believe we're already at the end of round five! Where did all that time go?
About this creation
This round I am competing against Antonio Silva in the category "They call that a sport?"(Think far off into the future and give us your take on what the national past time may be in the next century or so!)
MocOlympics Link
In the year 2111 the effects of global warming had finally pushed earth into another ice age. The last ice age killed off most of the animals that inhabited the planet. The human race had two things those animals didn't. An advanced brain and technology. Using both, humans were able to not only survive but thrive! With the worlds climate changing drastically, The buildings we live and work in, the vehicles we drive, the things we eat, and everything in between had to be changed to better suit the new, chillier world. By this time, robots were a common part of life. They helped the elderly, drove us to work, cooked and cleaned, they even took over some of the more dangerous jobs humans once did. One of those jobs is playing hockey. Many humans died to entertain the masses and the decision to replace human players with robots was was finally put into effect in the year 2109. Many of the rules that were meant to keep human players safe, were thrown out to make the sport more entertaining. These changes to the rules made hockey extremely fast paced and dangerous. All forms of physical contact were made legal and every game ended with at least ten destroyed robots. The fans loved this new barbaric form of hockey so much that they would pay the outrageous prices the vendors charged without question!
Thanks to work and my father ending up in hospital because of an irregular heartbeat(He's doing just fine, so worry not),time for building this entry was hard to find. I was planning on adding more bleachers and photographing a game between the two teams but I ran out of time to do it. Now, I'm not throwing in the towel just yet. My father should be released soon, so that will free up quite a bit of time.

So here we have the arena and the bleachers I managed to finish. Please excuse the crappy photo editing. That is definitely not one of my strengths.

The face-off! Yellow VS Red!

Red goalie.

Yellow goalie.

I'm quite fond of this shot. Not entirely sure why.

The scoreboard. I used the same rig that I used for my airship last round to make the scoreboard levitate.

Get em' while their not frozen!

Right side of the bleachers.

Left side of the bleachers.

The yellow team's goalie and defensemen.

And the Red team's goalie and defensemen.

Is that Ivan? I thought he was dead! "If you don't sit down, I'll bash your head in!"

Snacks and beverages! Get your snacks and beverages here!

crazed fans.

another crazed fan.

Even galactic scum like hockey. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed yet but, I have snuck a Fett helmet in every entry since round two. Their not hidden very well but I though it would be fun to put one in each entry. See if you can find them :)

Announcers Tim Arnold and Ron Perry.

overhead of everything.

The Yellow team.

Red team.

The referee. with the new rules in place it was FAR too dangerous to let humans remain the referees. Robots were used instead.

Size comparison between a minifig, the goalies and the referee. All of the standard players are all built the same as the ref.

back of the robots.

The hockey net

back of the net.

and finally a shot of the entire announcer room.
Northern Notes:
That's all folks! Even though I didn't get everything finished, I'm very happy with what I managed to complete. I also love the way it all lights up (white christmas lights). It looks awesome at night. The lights even reflect off of the tiled rink and make it look like real ice.
Today just happens to mark my third year on mocpages! Time flies when your buried in plastic bricks!
Anyway! Best of luck to my opponent Antonio and thanks to everyone who has supported my addiction over the last three years!

You building something 'ice-soccer' related is almost as surprising as Shifu building a black ship! =P Also, isn't 'fresh hotdogs' an oxymoron? =) All joking aside, this is magnificent! The lighting is superb and really creates the ambiance that Shifu pointed out as well as highlighting all of the great details. LOVE the digital scroll too, great touch. Good luck, hoser!~H |

Quoting Mr. X
Nice build, but I do have one question. If all the animals died out during this second Ice Age how do they have Hotdogs? Did they clone the animals to get the meat that they needed? Just wondering.
Ah! Forgot to specify which ice age I was talking about. The ice age I'm referring to here is the one that killed off the mammoths. The ice age of 2111 was predicted and all livestock would have been moved to biodomes of some kind. :) Plenty of hotdog meat to go around! |
