Gigaton MBS Mk.I
the latest addition to the MBS family.
About this creation
introducing the Gigaton MBS!

as countless serious issues were found with the Megaton MBS, IWE decided give it an overhaul. and overhaul it we did! the Megaton, its revised version named the Gigaton, is a completely new Mech. (I really did change everything. the only parts that managed to avoid much changed are the head and the feet) and now, the Gigaton is ready for action! *a bunch of Gundams start screaming like little girls* :P

since Chunkblaster is (at least I'm pretty sure) the original creator of the MBS, I decided to try and make the Gigaton look like his MBSs. and I think I pulled it off. also, I believe this to be the sturdiest Mech I've ever made (if it were buyable I might even test that theory). that's a pretty good accomplishment for someone who has no consideration for gravity when working with LDD. aside from decent construction, I also eliminated certain features, such as the 8-stud-thick shoulders, from the Megaton that were deemed impractical.

the Gigaton comes with the standard protection found on most of IWE's heavy mechanized units, that being durasteel armor plating and armor-fitting ray shields.

I really had fun with the Gigaton's weapons. this is its laser rifle. unlike ordinary blasters, the laser rifle fires neither particle beams or plasma bolts, but instead a real, genuine laser. usually lasers are weaker than other types of blaster ammunition, but special amplification systems make the laser rifle one of the most powerful rifles in existence. it's also the most accurate, travels at the speed of light (you can't dodge it), has little recoil, makes very little noise when firing, and is overall one of the best sniper weapons available. as such, it was an excellent choice as a weapon to upscale for use as a MBS weapon.

this is the T-41 Pounder, the same blaster rifle used by the Dragoon MBS. it's an oversized variant of the popular T-6 superheavy blaster, and packs the same punch as its little brother. it was such an effective weapon I decided to give it to the Gigaton as well. it's a major improvement over the Megaton's blaster rifle, which is probably the Mech equivalent of a hold-out blaster.

I was kinda lazy with most of the posing on this Mech, but I decided to put some genuine effort into this picture. these are the Gigaton's two DG-27s blaster sidearms. they aren't the biggest sticks around, "but they never run outta ammo." a couple MBS pilots have these little babies as their sole weapon of choice and use them to great effect.

I decided to try something new: holsters. well, the next thing away from it. situated on the back of each leg is a magnetic plate, and, whenever the two DG-27s sidearms aren't in use, the magnetic clamps serve as the perfect place to keep them when not in use. originally I was going to put them on the Gigaton's hips, but they got in the way of the arms.

since the "holsters" didn't work out on the hips, I put something else there instead. I was inspired by Eroom Divad's ammunition idea with the clips and implemented my own version of it into my Mech. I'll also be adding the new clip system into all of my future Mechs. each clip uses Sig blaster gas and provides enough ammunition for about 230 shots with a standard MBS blaster rifle.

okay, so let's say you have something that's bothering you. for example, an oversized enenmy bunker that's getting in the way of your sunlight. what's the first thing you do? throw a temper tantrum? call in an air strike? nope. we've already equipped you for such a predicament with two VT-490 Mass-Drivers! these beastly cannons are the biggest toy dart guns you'll ever get to play with. Mass-Drivers are a lot like railguns. they generally utilize a pair of metal rails and conduct a magnetic current across them. the magnetic current pulls a projectile across the rails and launches it. the VT-490 is capable of firing a 40mm piercer round at speeds of up to 3 km/s. that'll make a BIG hole in those pesky oversized bunkers.

and for those of you that prefer big explosions, loud noises, and big blackened craters, we've included two concussion missile racks loaded in the shoulders! the new baradium/detonite warhead that these missiles are equipped with have pack a lot more explosive power than normal concussion missiles. one of the biggest downfalls of the missiles is quantity, as the Gigaton goes through them quite quickly. to fix this problem, they were mounted on specialized easy-removal racks for quick reloading.

the Dragoon, when flying, was usually described as being "as graceful as a Hutt with a jetpack." for those of you who aren't experts on Hutt anatomy, that's not a compliment. the thrusters had very limited abilities and poorly done AI algorithms for guiding its flight made trying to fly very difficult for the Dragoon. but after several successful flight-capable Mechs, such as the Rhae'llia and the Starjumper, we had enough research completed to do better. and, though it still has problems, the Gigaton has proven itself quite good at flight. specialized ion drive thrusters and improved flight guiding systems, as well as the Gigaton's light and streamlined body, have made this Mech an excellent aerial combat unit.

just a quick glance in the cockpit. strangely, I think the Megaton's cockpit was just as big, despite the body being about 30% smaller. I'm still trying to figure out why.

credit to Chunkblaster for several techniques used in the Mech, and credit to Bioengineerer and his UXM-1's head design which became inspiration for the Gigaton's head.

I might post the Megaton as well sometime so you can compare the two.

Quoting BiO.Andrew (UGM-7 series in progress!) Okay, since this, Bill person, doesn't have any creations, I'll just post this here, hoping he'll see it. First off, if you want to have any hope of joining the group, you seriously have to tone it down. A lot. Also, posting tons of comments that say the same thing just to give a creation a higher rating is not the way to be friendly. If these actions persist, I may have to report you for spamming. Tone it down, post a few MOCs, then we'll see about having you join the group. Also, you really should check out other people's creations. We have similar styles to Arik, and you won't be disappointed. :)
thanks Bio. :) and yes, I'm not even close to the best. go look around MOCpages, you'll find plenty of amazing creations.

Quoting Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill.... Bill Nye, The LEGO Guy HIS MOCS ARE COOL BUT I LIKE YOURS MORE! Also I saw your group! I want to join!
well I'm not the guy in charge of the group, but I'll ask if you can join. you might have to wait until you have something to show your Mech designing skill, though (your RIOT Bot has to go through moderation and won't be up for a little while). the Elite Mechaniers aren't too picky about the skill level of their members, but they'll probably want to see a Mech or two from your first. :)

Quoting Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill.... Bill Nye, The LEGO Guy I don't no about taking down a Gundam, a bunch of GMs for sure doh! YEAAA, I knew you were one of GOd's chosen children! He has blessed you with his skills and you have used thm for the arts of LEGO!
huh. well, not everyone that's good at building with LEGOs is a Christian. and can I point you to a certain individual named Chunkblaster who is also really good at designing Mechs? (certainly better than me, anyway) his username on here is CBMC (Chunkblaster). I'd also advise looking at his Mechs on LEGO.Com's Design by Me gallery. if you think my Mechs are good, his are sure to amaze you.

so, would you say this thing is able to take down a Gundam? :P and yeah, I do happen to be a Christian, though I'm not entirely sure what that has to do with being a good builder...

Richie, Im sorry but I honestly forgot =( I'll get on that when I get a chance, between work and college its hard to remember everything. And Eric, I'm cool with you updating some of the older MBS's but leave the Eviscerater and the Crusader, I've been planning on making an anniversary addition of both for a while, I actually had one of the Eviserator almost done but that was way back when I was doing the H-MBS's

Bio, As far as i know Arik was correct in that Chunk was (as far as i know) the first to call it an MBS. Chunk, Now that it is evident that you are or will soon be back to work on LDD projects, i cant help but ask what, if any, progress has been made on your modifications to my mech. (if i'm sounding impatient or over-optimistic, feel free not to answer)

Quoting CBMC Chunkblaster Arik I am Very impressed with this! You've done a great job sticking to the concept of having interchangeable parts and weapons by the looks of it, and I really like the addition of side arms and spare ammunition! ANd yes this probly would stand,m I have a modified Grey Wolf Mk.1 with ball joints (thats not what the original MBs's used) at my house and he stands up just fine! And thank you for all the praise on the MBS line, I'll have to post the grey wolf on here so everyone else can take a look at it.
yes, post the Grey Wolf!!! and yeah, it's perfectly fine if you modify the Gigaton. I was a bit displeased with the just about everything you mentioned. :P speaking of that, is it alright if I go back through some of your old MBS units and perhaps update them? I thought some of them, particularly the Nimbus, looked pretty cool. also, since I made the Gigaton for speed and the Dragoon as an all-arounder, I'm considering making a newer MBS to serve as a more heavily armored unit. ...as if I didn't already have fifty million possible projects... :P

Actyually, would you be mad if I maybe went and released a MK.2 of this? I'm thinkin maybe bigger boosters, jackin up those shoulder mounted railguns a bit and maybe beefier legs =D with full credit to you for the original mech ofcorse.

Quoting Thomas Z. Very nice build! I like the weapons a lot, mainly the railguns. But I'm pretty sure this guy would tremble in fear by the presence of a Destroy Gundam :P (search for it) Anyways, nice work!

Quoting BiO.Andrew (UGM-7 series in progress!) Woah woah woah, what's all this about oldest mech classes? Arik, I really hope you don't think that chunk was some sort of pioneer in that realm. People have been building and posting lego mechs for quite some time, and the idea of a large-scale mech with I pilot has been around for even longer. I don't mean to sound mad at you for this, but your mouth (or keyboard, to be more precise) seems like a bit of a loose cannon, firing out whatever it wants, whenever it wants, just to make things sound impressive. I suggest that next time, you look at the facts before making any assumptions.
well I'll look around. of course there have been other MBS-like Mechs before Chunk thought up the MBS system, but not very many.

Quoting Richie "Richie2571" Collins Y'know, Chunk used a similar head design on the Grey Wolf MBS (my favorite MBS in the entire industry) Anyhow, You call this thing Streamlined? "One must be either insane, [pause for effect] or crazy..." JK ;P But seriously, while not even an "otherwize" [see chunkblaster's Goliath mk.2 MBS] can compete with a flying MBS in terms of manuverability, i don't think an MBS can be called streamlined.
hmm, looking back a bit, there really hasn't been that many MBSs. there's the Goliath, Grey Wolf, Nimbus, and Dragoon, the tiny Evicerator and Gladius, the two H-MBS units (which look like Decepticons in my opinion :P), and my Megaton and Gigaton. the whole MBS thing, despite being one of the oldest Mech classes around, is still pretty empty. well, better get back to work. it's not going to fill itself.

yeah I know. actually, the heads on ALL of my MBS-related Mechs have been extremely similar to the Grey Wolf. (the Grey Wolf is probably my favorite Mech in existence :P) and when I said streamlined, I was comparing it to the bulkier MBSs like the Goliath and Dragoon, which look more like walking metal boxes. :P and its surface is pretty smooth.
