Hello everyone! Some of you may have been wondering why we here at Dem Bones have not been posting creations too often, well the reason is that we are working on a large scale project. The construction of Darksylvania, a city where Bones and other undead live. When completed, the city and outskirts will measure roughly 22 feet by 14 feet. We will try to post WIP posts periodically, and here is the first!
About this creation

When Mister Bones first proposed the idea of building a city where the undead and supernatural could live, the first question was “Where to build the city?” Bones and company searched long and hard, far and wide, near and not so near, ….well, you get the picture. Finally, they found the perfect spot; a seaside location that would support a harbor, a nice flat plain surrounded by a forest, and two large mountains. This first entry will show the smaller of those mountains, Edelsteine Mountain.

When Bones and his brothers, Basil and Abaddon, found the mountain, they discovered it was full of gold and gems. Being a shrewd businessman, Basil, the eldest brother, informed Bones and Abaddon that he could get some dwarves to move to the city and mine the mountain. No, not the dwarves that hang out with that goth chick who likes apples, real dwarves. Basil will then set up a bank in the city and use the wealth of the mine to help kick-start Darksylvania.

The glow of the many gems can be seen emanating from the mountain.

We see some dwarves have already arrived to both mine and protect the treasure.

OK, other mountain stuff; The very top of the mountain comes off as a sort of playability feature. What is inside you ask?

GOLD! Out of focus gold, but gold nonetheless.

Part of the deal to get the dwarves to move to the area was that they have their own village. Dwarves are recluses and do not like city life, so Bones agreed and laid out land on the outskirts of the city, next to the two mountains, for the dwarves to build a village. The first building they constructed was a weapons shop…….go figure.

Here we see the back of the shop with a dwarf behind the counter. What? This building looks oddly similar to something you have seen before? Well good for you! It is a slightly modified version of the Winter Bakery. We basically changed the colors and some of the design.

Well that is one of the first areas of what will eventually become the dwarf village on the outskirts of Darksylvania. Below are a few additional shots.

Extra shots because I am not arrogant enough to think a photo is worth 1,000,000,000,000,000 words.

Dem Notes: OK, so there is the first entry of the Darksylvania Journal. Next to this mountain will be the taller mountain, named Yeti Mountain because Bones had his two Yeti friends move there to keep an eye on the treasure in Edelsteine Mountain. The dwarf village will be nestled between these two mountains and the train tracks will run past as well so that the gems can be transported to the bank. We hope to have enough of Darksylvania completed to display at Bricks By The Bay in 2013. Cheers all.

That comment by Chris Melby seemed a bit un-called for. (Don't worry Bones, I've got your back! ;) Anyway, sucking up aside, hurry up with Yeti Mountain won't you?
Thanks Luke, but it is not necessary. Based on his comments and his home page, he strikes me as your typical introvert who is trying to make himself feel better by displaying unwarranted arrogance on a website. If he does not like the way I build, I don’t care.
As for the other mountain, I finished that before I ever built this one, but I am too lazy to take pictures and post it.

Funny you say that, Bones' friend, Pharoah Rami II will have an entire compound within the city. Also planned is a large tree where the elves will reside and a castle compound for the Vampires. The entire city is planned out already and there are all sorts of places for pirates, ghosts, zombies, etc. |

This build I would say has certain attributes but really is not the best thing you have built.
Your rock work is fantastic but your hut is poor and while your texturing is good it is slightly unnatural.
Just my honest opinion and I say it as I see it, you could disregard it thinking I know nothing but alternatively you could try and change some features to make it more natural.
Your comments are valid. Rock is never an easy thing and this mountain goes through changes almost weekly as I see something I do not like or that looks unnatural. Funny comment about the hut, it is not my design, it is Legos. I took the idea from the winter bakery, just changed the colors to brown and altered a few bits, but 90% is Lego's design. |
