Category: Life Here Began Out There.
About this creation
My opponent: Nick Barret
The apparently popular contest: 2011 MocOlympics
Now this moc is very different from my other entries. It is more of a narrative story rather than just a solid build, but well worth it in the end.

On a distant planet called Zurivon, there is a small alien spieces known as Gluks.

These creatures have spines growing out of their backs (like a breathing apparatus) allowing them to breathe in the non-oxygen atmosphere, as well as underwater.

During a harsh prehistoric era these spike-backed creatures have slowly evolved from the slime pits and have gone through the early stages of the stone age.

Many strange and vicious creatures also live on Zurivon.

Suddenly something unnatural appeared in the skies.

A bright shiny object was seen and crashed near a small Gluk tribe, followed by a great quake.
When the Gluks arrived at the crash site, they found unknown life forms exit from the craft.
At first the "aliens" were hostile, but then ceased their aggression once the Gluks thought that they were gods from the skies and have come down to rule over them.

In a few short months four temples were built around the craft, and in return the gods have granted them with strange energetic life.

This "life" the gods offered them made the Gluks grow quickly and accelerated their evolution cycle.
Eventually a great civilization (and the first) was established on Zurivon, where the gods passed over their knowledge to them.

But then over time the gods disapeared and the Gluks fell into chaos, causing them to break apart.

Secrets were lost and the temple itself was destroyed, however all did not fall into ruin.
With the seperating of the four clans this was the start of a new age for the Gluks, as they spread across the world with their new found knowledge.

Five hundred years have passed and Gluks have now become a majestic peaceful race.

They accuired advance technology to travel beyond the stars, and have contructed an international space dock with a museum attached to tell others of their history and how that life here began out there.

An escavation was recently sent to find and bring back any artifacts that survived from the ruined temple (which now they believe the gods were once a mighty alien race).
One of the artifacts they found was a strange metallic alloy that was once apart of the craft, with unknown letters written across it.

With this new piece evidence the main purpose of the museum was to try to gain information and whereabouts of their creators from across the galaxy.

Because they did not know the forerunner's true name they hoped that one of the visiting aliens would recognize one of the artifacts.
Until then they continue to wait that perhaps one day they will come in contact with the givers of life. Or will they?

However little did they know that the craft (probe) came from a violent race known as Humans.

Five hundred years ago a probe had accidently crashed on Zurivon while looking for a habitable home when their world was destroying itself from war.

Even though human's are incapable of peace they have inadvertently created life as the probe's radiation flooded the land, slowly killing the humans onboard but greatly accelerating the Gluk's evolution.
______________________________________
My take on the category was quite difficult and I was eager to build something outside of my comfort zone (for once right?).

It was fun at first, but then it took quite some time before I came up with a good idea (I'm sure I'm not the only one who struggled with their category).
Because the quote was from Battlestar I knew I had to make something scifi, which I haven't done before.
To match the category I first thought of the Egyptains and Mayans and of course the popular belief of aliens influencing them to build such strange structures, almost like beacons.
So I reversed the idea and changed the perspective. I tried to make it look like that it was the humans touching down on the earth-like world and unintentinally creating the first alien civilization.
"Life here began out there".

I hope this moc is somewhat close to that quote and also to the liking of the judges.
Thank you for your comments and views everybody!

Hey, Stormbringer! So sorry that you couldn't enter the PokeMOC League, I hope you do well in your other contest! I'm wondering, our third judge hasn't gotten back to us yet, would you be interested? If you're too busy, that's fine, but I think you'd be a great judge with your experience. |

I don't know what you mean by "illegal" connections, but every custom character was made with real Lego parts (which means no brickarms or cutting). All my mocs are Purest, even my brick-built creatures.
Illegal connections are things The LEGO Company would never do. Things like clips attached to clips. Just hands attached to things. All those little claws attached at weird angles and in the middle of clips. Taken apart Minifigs pieces(Torsos and Legs) to add detail. I did not doubt your purist abilities. I'm against those Brickarms/Forge things. I don't entirely enjoy making illegal connections because it stresses out clips, especially. My building style is very similar to LEGO sets which is why I get comments saying my Starfighters look like they are from sets. It's also why I don't particularly enjoy seeing old and new browns and grays mixed together. I am beginning to warm up to these things more, especially when I see things like what you did. |

Huh, no dragons? - Just kidding. So many parts used in so many brilliant ways. The colour selection is very alienesque and therefore well chosen. I think, the part that I liked most - apart from the large variety of creatures -, is the "zoom" into the museum you used to make the 500 years jump. Good visual storytelling. You got my vote. |

Here you go, bringing another storm and all, but this time the storm is from the far reaches of space! I'm a huge fan of "ancient alien" stuff (don't personally believe it, but it's fun) so this concept won me over and your builds were top of the line too (some of those aliens were just... wow)! You got my vote! ~ Chris.
Thanks for your vote! I was almost stumped on this category. Hopefully the next round won't be too difficult.. Aside from dragons and castle, science fiction is another favorite theme. Except I couldn't figure out how to turn it into Lego (until now). Maybe after the contest I'll make more. |

That was a lot more colors then I was expecting... anyways very good diorama! Your monsters are really inspirational, looks like your Pokémon building skills are suiting you well in all fields. The space aliens, both minifig and brick built are wicked. My favorite is the yellow one in the museum with the Galdiator arms and Aquazone body. Also this picture totally reminds me of a metal album called "Frequencies from Planet 10". Probably just a coincidence. Anyways, MOC on my friend, I look forward to seeing what you will build in the future.
