The Tower of the Arcane rises in the Western Provinces of the Kingdom of Leon: the seat of power of the great mage. Having just succeeded his former mentor Edrin the Wise, the young Mage Kaloyan has not been able to convince the local villagers that they are subjugated to him. Having been insulted and threatened, Kaloyan has found an ancient spell in the recesses of the tower, and now moves to unleash it on the village of Pliska.
In the early morning Kaloyan and his servant Roger arrive on the outskirts of Pliska and the Mage unleashes a burst of of Earth Magic. Vines creep out of the ground and low tremors rumble and echo through the main square where the town's pride and joy rises; the Cathedral of the Crown of Thorns. ...
The Mage shouts out: "In the name of Gaya and the sacred flesh of the earth, I command you! Golem, awaken!"
A massive conglomerate emerges from the ground; a rock Golem, a dormant vestige of the ancient schools of magic. As the peasants attempt to defend their homes they quickly learn that fighting off this monster is beyond them...
Kaloyan: "Why they are running scared Roger! This demonstration will be over in a minute!"
(Shouting): "You hear that you insolent peasants! First I'll crush your homes, then your precious Cathdral!"
Fleeting villagers: "Run for your lives! Get away!!"
Woman: "Dear Lord somebody do something!"
Town Eldar: "Enough! Enough! Spare this man, spare the Cathedral and spare the town, Lord Kaloyan!!! We submit! We submit to your will for goodness sake; please stop that thing!"
Kaloyan raises his staff and the Golem drops the villager who scuttles to shelter, the monster disappears beneath the ground and the square is eerily quiet with the calm of morning once again.
Later on in the Tower of the Arcane:
Roger: "Milord the elder is respectfully awaiting audience with you."
Kaloyan: "Excellent, lead him in Roger"
Elder: "I'm here at your request milord"
Kaloyan: "My, my such respect! tell me do you still think your lord is a young cockerel who has his nose buried in the tomes?"
Elder: "No milord, I respectfully submit my will to you"
Kaloyan: "There there dear elder, we have important work to do! Head on down to the village and tell your people the following things: They are from this day forth to serve and obey me as their master and their lord."
Elder: "Yes milord"
Kaloyan: "You are to destroy any vestige of your former alliance with Leon; in its place you are to hang the symbol that you see on these shields; the symbol of Elemental Magic; this is your new coat of arms."
Elder: "Yes milord"
Kaloyan: "Lastly, I am in need of a goat"
Elder: "A ... goat milord?"
Kaloyan: "Indeed, do this now. You are dismissed."
Later Roger arrives with the requested goat
Roger: "The villagers are burning all images of Leon in a massive fire ser. They sent this goat. Er... ser, why do we need a goat?"
Kaloyan: "It's part of a dark ritual my dear servant"
Roger: "You won't hurt it will you ser?"
Kaloyan: "I'm not planning on it; it is merely a vessel to serve as a conduit for my trip"
Roger: "Trip ser?"
Kaloyan: "Roger these peasants are no good at fighting and may swear their allegiance to any threat that looms over them as long as they get to live their little miserable lives. That will not do, in the long run, I need more than mere men, I need dark creatures from beyond. I have read some of Edrin's texts and it appears our benevolent friend experimented with Forbidden Magic in his youth, he may have found a way to get accross the divide and seek the aid of demons."
Roger: "I'm afraid I don't follow you ser."
Kaloyan: (Laughing) "Dear Roger, have you ever heard of the Underworld?"
Over and over you blow me away with your fantastic prowess, and then dog-pile onto it with a great story. Thus, you have now earned favorite builder-ness. I really love all the stained glass in this, and the summoned creature is incredible. Excellent work!
