MIT Round 1 The Timinater v Ian Spacek
You Must Be This Tall... - Build your own version of an amusement park or carnival ride that the masses would line up for in droves. Just like Ian, I did a roller coaster- should make it easier to judge. Best of luck Ian...
About this creation
First, the links; Ian Spacek , my talented opposition, and the MIT homepage...

the loop the loop was a very complex thing... very frustrating to get the right roundness to it, etc..

I like this falling hair technique...

more falling hair.

hair getting swooshed back, and scared faces alround... even though that barely ever happens :D

more scared faces! wusses.

this is one of my favourite creations, and I am very happy with it...

it starts with a steep slope... whoosh! loop the loop...

go round this bend...

and a climb, then a drop...

I will take you through the ride...

the loop the loop was tricky, as I was running out of the right pieces, and it was alost not big enough...

going round the bend...

up, up, and over we go!

woah!

some worried/jeering faces. and the carefree security guy :D

the base was far too plain too just leave, so I put in a path, plants, and a fence...

I really like this fence design...

suckers! not what you want to see coming out of the loop the loop- reminds me of the first time we went on a roller coaster my 11 year old sis came off and told mum, "It was really fun, but the 2 times I opened my eyes, I was scared" LOL

now for the carts.

cheese slopes for streamlinedness (if that's a word :P)

space for 2 per carriage...

these thingies for keeping the carts on the track when doing the loop the loop!

available in 4 different colours!

my new technique for joints. it can turn sidewise, up, and down...

thank goodness this is done!

good luck to all contestant!

Hope you enjoyed!

God bless you all!

Tim

That is AWESOME dude!!!! I really like the roller coaster but that ground is maybe too simple.
  December 24, 2011
that's actually really clever. might benefit from some extra detail on the ground, the grey baseplate is a little bland, plus real roller coasters often have signs or adverts on them, you might want to add something along those lines to break up all that black. other than that I think it's very impressive. your best so far I'd say.

ok, just because you asked something does not mean I will reply. I am busy, and wasn't aware of your question. I am offended by your rudeness. I am not at all famous, and it would not go to my head, either. It doesn't seem to me that you have been waiting partiently. people like YOU disgust ME. you think you are correct, you can do anything, and you couldn't spell to save your life. To answer your question, yes, you can push it around.

Quoting Hans Dendauw NPD Mr. Timinater, this was a tough decision to make. Your choice to build the ride so extensively was ambitious and it probably was hindered a bit by your collection. The loop was a great idea and you might have been better suited concentrating on recreating that portion of the ride better. By doing that, you could have focused on more detail with your limited bricks and still captured the essence of the ride, which is what I felt your opponent did, so he gets my vote. It's still a great MOC, so be proud and hold your head high. Thanks for competing in the first ever MIT!~H

You also doing a roller coaster did not make it easier to judge :P However, my vote had to go to your opponent. That does not detract from the coolness of yours though. I like the loop.

Quoting Quad ????? I think my favorite part about this is the well made roller coaster cars, they look alot like real ones. Also only three judges will judge this. :)

Quoting Master Shifu Leo J Having very similar builds does not make it easier to judge. Both builds are excellent and stayed true to the category. While Ian's is more finesse and have some close to real-world construction techniques, Timinator's build captures the ride experience better IMO. Unfortunately, I can only vote for one. My vote goes to Timinator.
yes! thank you so much! 1 down, 5 to go!

Well, it's obviously standing still. I saw that from falling hair (it doesn't fall, it either goes back, or, on top of a loop, up) and uninterested/angry/concerned faces.

This is getting popular pretty fast...plus it looks like you got Phipsons vote...my turn to be nervous. I think the size of this is going to help you a lot, that's my problem. I have no great base-plates and very limited pieces. This is going to be close! I'm quaking in my boots, size usually is what matters...best of luck!

Very nice. I love the track and everything about the roller coaster, but find the baseplate rather boring. Aside from that, great work. You know I am rooting for Ian, but good luck anyway.

Eek! What were you so nervous about? This is awesome! Your technique is somewhat similar to mine, but different at the same time. So I guess it's steel-coaster vs wooden-coaster! The loop-to-loop is brilliant, I wondered if you'd do that. I had the same idea for upside-down hair. Well I think you actually might win, because you did almost the whole thing! Nice job!
