Blue granite castle housing the ruler of Basementonia.
About this creation
This is my first castle and an exercise in some of the simpler design elements. Not sure how many blocks were used, but close to 10,000.
The castle sits on top of the largest mountain in Basementonia and the king rules over the kingdom keeping the other rulers in check. The King’s spies, however, have reported that there are talks of the two lesser kings banding together to destroy his kingdom and castle.
I chose blue as the base colour for several reasons:
1) cost – the bricks were inexpensive compared to some other colours
2) my son’s castle was mostly black, and I wanted this to be different
3) I really like the look of black and blue together,
4) and I am saving my gray blocks for the LOTR scene we are working on.
The castle will be short lived (it will be destroyed in the upcoming battle) and will be deconstructed to experiment with some other design elements.
In addition, the next castle will likely be modular/component based so as to work in more detail with the interior – this castle’s interior is not finished. These blue bricks will likely be used as the outer walls for the next castle.
Please leave comments on what you like about this castle, and please offer examples of what should be changed for the next MOC. There are many things that I wished I had done differently, but that is part of learning.
If you have examples on your page that you would like me to look at for ideas of design elements, then please leave a comment so I can look at your MOCs.
This castle was built from parts that I collected from the fine people at Bricklink

Wow, that is really impressive. About 10,000 bricks you say? That's my entire collection... I like the blue because of the fantasy feel it gives. |

Hey there! Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it when great builders such as yourself pay attention to my/our MOCs :] I love this castle, most of all due to its colour scheme. Can't wait to see the upcoming modular version of it! |

I liked how you used blue bricks. When you are building a Castle do you use plans that you already made or make it up as you go? |

This is so stunning.
If you told me you had built a very high BLUE castle with only so many windows I would have expected it to be ugly and boring. But in all its simplicity (not too many small details) it shows grandeur, it's very impressive indeed. The blue gives it a nice moonlight fantasy touch. Great! |

A grey or tan would have been better, but it still looks awesome even without it.
The base reminds me of Orthanc from Lord of the Rings.
(To those who don't know what Orthanc is, it's the tower at Isengard where Saruman lived, and not the one with the firey eye on top. That's Sauron's pad, called Barad-dur.)
So back to the moc, how tall is it actually? Looks about 5-6 feet to me. |

My first reaction - HELP its blue! - Second reaction - Kewl, its blue! The colorscheme lifts it from monotonous to a radical design!

Great work here, the blue & black work surprisingly well together, some excellent structural details too. The height is very nice, but I think it would look 100 times better in grey. Is there a door though? I can't make one out. I have actually been working on something similar for the past few weeks. |

Hey, I'm the guy you reviewed on MOCpages about my "Three Stooges" minifigs. I'm glad you like them!
P.S. I really like your fortress . . . "Massive and Beautiful" were the only words I could muster before I fell silent in awe. It looks like "Basementonia" might soon be upgraded to "Houseland" at this rate! |

Nice start! I particularly like the extremely high walls and the long sloping front steps. The blue's not bad to me, kind of has a menacing effect. Future considerations might be sculptural detailing around windows, roof lines, doorways, etc, a curved wall somewhere for contrast, and variations to height. I'll look forward to seeing more! |
