The idea with this page is to keep something of a journal for the construction of my first large scale MOC, General Grievous' Invisible Hand.

Looking at others' creations, I often find myself wondering how long it took, how difficult it might have actually been, and the steps involved. So I thought it might be fun to post some "progress reports" as this lengthy, and expensive creation trudges along...we'll see if I survive the process! (Also, there's always the hope that it may serve as a personal reminder to me never to attempt something so ludicrisly elaborate and difficult ever again. Although I tend not to listen to myself when stirred by some creative delusion of grandure!)

So anyway, here goes a bold attempt at what may amount to nothin'. But then again, as Ferris Bueller said..."Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive!"

March 23, 2007: Bankrupt and homeless, I at least now have more parts. Here is an interior view of the supports for the front portion of the ship. I used universal joints and axles for the initial angles, along with technic bricks and hinges to lock everything in place (so this will be the first thing to fall apart on me.)...

The hulls skeletal structure is being made from Castle walls to avoid the need for massive amounts of bricks and excessive weight (in a whiney, nasal voice: Hey, I'm not fat...I'm just big bricked!"). I was planning additional supports but found this to be surprisingly strong and stable (so this will be the second thing to fall apart on me)...

Here's a view of the front half's upper decking detail. Getting anything from the movie is nearly impossible as the ship is usually cropped, at weird angles, constantly in motion, poorly lit, and...oh, yeah...EXPLODING everywhere!!! (Thanks for that, George.) I found one decent photo in a book, and a few prototype illustrations that aren't too far off, but most of the detail is going to have to come from my own imagination (oh, crap.)...

You can also see the start of the darker trench section. I'm using hundreds (and hundreds, and hundreds, and...) of transparent yellow 1 x 1's for the lit interiors. I considered using lights as well, but didn't just as a personal preference. Next entry: I hope to have more of the front half's exterior completed...Be sure to stop in, there'll be punch and pie.

A perfect level of detail - I especially like the way the angle of the nose changes as it moves back towards the body of the ship. Looking forward to more installment of this construct. Lee

Mark, I have been salivating over the thought of this next review....and you've sated my apetite for the Invisible hand...for now. I can see that you've encountered one or two design obstacles recently but you've overcome them - It's a massive undertaking but your imagination and patience is clearly paying off - I await the next delectable installment of the construction journal of The Invisible hand! keep at it (incidently, I've started the basic frame construction of the USAC Event Horizon and will be postig the inital construction phase on here soon.) ;)
