Inspired by Lego Tron to create a LEGO Zoetrope, I came up with a few enhancements to his idea. A zoetrope is an old device for creating animation by spinning a series of images inside a slitted drum. When viewed through the spinning slits, the images appear animated.
First I decided to make 16 frames to provide for a longer animation. Because I have a surplus of 4x6 tiles, I chose them as the backdrop for each frame. I made a small stick figure from three small plates to serve as the animation subject.
#3 angled Technic axle connectors and 6m axles make a regular 16-sided polygon, which I used for the framework.
The zoetrope is hand-driven using old-style LEGO gears.
The animation works great! I have posted a video of the zoetrope in action at YouTube Because the framerate of the camera gets out of sync with the zoetrope, it's a little choppy. It looks great in person, however.
