"Platypus" UYAB-class dropship
Ugly Yellow And Black dropship
About this creation
UYAB is an acronym for "Ugly Yellow And Black", so this is an Ugly Yellow And Black-class dropship. That's the best name I could think of. I supppose it doesn't need the U, but I think it's ugly, and it probably doesn't have very good camouflage. I don't imagine it to be able to fly up in the air or in space; it just hovers over the ground. Last time I posted something (my space cruiser), I included a list of things that I don't like about it. This time, just to be more positive, I'll include a list of things that I do like about this MOC:

  • It's much better than some of my previous attempts at a dropship.

  • It took me a long time to find all of those sloped pieces, so it's nice that it has as many as it does. My LEGOŽ collection isn't organized into bins or anything.

  • The nifty cockpit design.

I named it the Platypus because the front part kind of looks like a duckbill. I have a big army (actually, it's more like a platoon) of minifig soldiers, and I wanted to build something in which to transport them. I started with two of these pieces in yellow, and the Platypus is the result.

Response to Matt S:

It's fine with me if you write a review even though there's nothing that you don't like about the MOC. People do that all the time.

Response to Will W:

No, unfortunately, they don't all fit. I could only manage to cram about 16 troops inside (even though that one guy did have a big missile launcher). It might not be a lot, but it is half of my entire army.

Response to iron legoman:

I have no idea.

Front view. Maybe you can see why it's called the Platypus.

The cockpit is one of these attached sideways to a hinge. Here you can see the strange writing that I got from the old Naboo Starfighter set.

Because of the design of the cockpit, the controls go up with the windshield when it opens. The pilot has to be leaning back a little bit in order to fit.

It would be really hard to see the controls if I wasn't shining a flashlight on them.

The underside of the front section has two gun cannons which are in front of two sensors (or whatever you want them to be).

That last picture was kind of dark, so in this one, I'm shining the flashlight on it. It doesn't help very much, though. Maybe I should get a good digital camera.

Rear view. It has a nice, big window so the soldiers can see what the anti-aircraft turret is doing.

The underside of the rear section.

Look how I made the radar dish! Isn't it cool? You may have seen radar dishes of the same design near the base of the bridge of my space cruiser.

   Side view.

It can open like this on both sides to deploy the troops.

My army consists of exactly thirty-two soldiers (not including the pilot of my UYAB stuff).

Here is just one soldier, with the standard-issue assault rifle. They all have the same uniform, which consists of a torso that looks like this, black arms, dark gray hands, and these legs. Each one has a different face. It would be difficult to see the uniform if I weren't shining that flashlight.

This soldier was lucky enough to be assigned the anti-tank missile launcher. His face looks like this.

   The missile launcher by itself.

Don't know why I haven't commented this one yet, it's so good ! Kind of a mix between a house and a submarine, very interesting, and a bit funny (in a good way !) - Could be a Blacktron dropship. Awesome !

This is a neat dropship. I like the canopy you chose. The window at the back is nice too, and I like the dish.

Nate, I really like your very unique and refreshing take on an established 'dropship' concept. The prism shaped body is very well made and the structure of the whole vessel seems to be uniquely well balanced. Great colour scheme too, yellow is an underated colour outside of construction! - I particularly like the obligitory radar dish on the drive section. The deployment method is reall practical too so i suppose it could be used as a light cargo hauler also? I have to say that you've named this beast well because in a peculiar way,it does indeed bear a slight resemblance to the beaked marsupial. excellent work. ;)
