MocOlympics Round 1: Earth
My first entry for the elimination round. The category is Earth.
About this creation
For the 2011 MocOlympics .

The moc takes place around the Blue Mountains, where there is much rocky terrain that is perfect for hiking and camping.

Matt, who is a lover of the outdoors, takes his two sons (Billy, who is a little chubby and Zack who is the youngster) out with him to explore the wonders of nature.

But he mainly wants them to get away from their precious electronics and video games.

After spending several hours climbing down the slopes, they stopped to take a break (and to wait for Billy to catch up).

Billy: "Whew! Finally a break. How.. much.. further?"

Matt: "Why it's just another 10 miles, son! We're almost there."

Billy: "Eh?! Ugh..."

Zack: "What food have we got?"

Matt: "Well let's see.."

Matt: "Aha! Looks like we've got a bunch healthy Twinkie bars, provided for us from nature!"

While the three ate their nutritious snack, Zack noticed something strange with one of the rocks.

Zack: "Look at this wierd piece of rock. It almost looks like a face."

Matt: "Hey, that's pretty cool. Most of the rocks around here can look like faces."

Matt: "In fact there used to be this famous rock face in New Hampshire that looked like an old man."

Billy: "Ooh! Scary... Is there anymore Twinkie's?"

Matt: "Alright! Break's over, time to move out."

Billy: "Already?!"

Billy: "Where should I put my trash? There's no trash bin around here."

Matt: "Well of course not, silly! Put it in your backpack and come on."

Billy: "What? With all my stuff? Forget it!"

Billy: "I know! I'll put it in here. No one will notice!"

Then he stuffed his trash right into the mouth.

After Billy caught up with the others, the earth slighty trembled.

Zack: "What was that?"

Before they realized it, something rose up from the ground and began to tower over them...

Hidden deep within the ground is an Earth Dragon that was disguised as apart of the surrounding landscape and apparently took offense of being littered on.

So moral of the story is to reconsider the consequences of littering on our home. It's the only place we've got.

Not only is it impolite to dump your trash into the roots of this earth, but nature one day might return the favor.

Here are some bonus shots of the Tectonix Dragon, which was quite fun to make (even though only a small portion of him was featured in the moc).

I'll be seeing you in Round Two!

Oh, and once again let's not forget the link.

Quoting Natezilla 10000 That's ingenious how you had him tucked into the mountain like that. I love it how it's curved over his body so that it looks like it's permanent, yet it's removable. Excellent work! I hope you win the MocOlympics. (I always imagine the Green Death's theme when the Earth Dragon raises out of the ground. lol)
Well the MocOlympics is over for me, I couldn't make an entry in time due to an unfortunate power outage. But I do plan on making more larger dragons (as well as other projects that are long over due).

Well actually I am doing a life-sized "something", but I highly doubt we'll have the same idea (or maybe a little bit).

I'm up for a walk in the woods, now. Also thumps up for the dragon, which blends perfectly within the landscape. And last but not least: Excellent ethical education! (Wow. Now, that it's written there, it includes more more "e" than I expected.)

Quoting El Barto ! So when I first saw this, I wondered what you were up to. Nice scene, but something's a little odd...Needless to say, the cliff coming to life was unexpected. Excellent creativity and build quality. But the dramatic unveiling of the surprise is what really did it, and made the category jump right out! Congrats and looking forward to the next round!
I'm glad you liking it too. I was worried at first that someone would recognize that there was a dragon in the landscape. To tell you the truth I'm actually surprised that this is getting so much attention. I thought some of the other entries for Round 1 would steal the show.

Quoting Christopher Baldacci Solid, clean MOC, which showcases enormous talent and skill as a builder. I wouldn't have even seen the rockmonster if the kid hadn't pointed him out. He was that well blended into the scenery. The figs are awesome, and great use of the sweating face. The dragon was simple pheonomenal and makes me wish I could build living beasts like that. Really the dragon itself could have made it into the top 64 in my opinion. Really good story and write up that kept the focus on the pieces. If I had a suggestion it would maybe be to give the dad a different torso. The rebel trooper one looks a bit...StarTrek for campers. But very little improvent need in this. 5 stars, and a huge thumbs up. Good luck in round two!
Wow, thank you very much! It seems I overdid it with this moc, however I wasn't sure if I would make it through Round 1 since this was my first MocOlympics. Originally I was going to have the dragon similar to an Ent (which was later scrapped). The dragon was built first, but to me it didn't exactly fit with the earth category and needed a suitable background. So I had the idea of using hinges to cover the dragon instead of connecting him to the landscape. That way his wings would look like trees in the distance.

I didn't know you're a hippie... Anyways, awesome dragon. I beat you to it though, but your work played an importaint part in inspiring my creation, especially pantheon.
