-->Entry for the category - FIRE<-- . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This has to be one of the most beautiful numbers. This number represents the black dragon, my version of the beast will be described more accurately in the presentation.
I started with a volcano island, and no, I did not see Ocean's volcano when making this. Obviously. As I meant to say, I tried to capture the potential of a volcano, and I'm sure you know how. Or you will.
I was inspired in an interesting way too. It had a lot to do with Therion and Heroes of Might and Magic II.
This is aproximately how it went: To Mega Therion (Therion) -> HoMM necromancer castle -> bone dragon -> black dragon -> Nidhögg -> Nifelheim (Therion) -> this MOC.
Main inspiration for the whole creation is this song. Don't worry, it's not like super heavy death black metal or something, it's peaceful symphonic metal.
These black dragons are sea dragons, with wings adapted for easier swimming (they open the wings up to move them forth and enclose them to thrust forward.
They feed mainly with large fish, sea serpents and giant squids, but will not hold back from eating their kin.
The eggs are laid in volcanoes, wich explains the native beliefs that the dragons are born directly out of lava (and sometimes plain fire), but these beatiful creatures return to their homeplace only once in their life - to die. Wich is why there has only been found a few of their skeletons, and only one reanimated (not that they're like super powerful or something, but a black sea dragon's bone is worth it's volume in gold to a collector). Females find their own volcanoes usualy, but sometimes up to five share one (rarely more, but only on bigger remote (human factor) volcanoes). That's when it comes to cannibalism.
The mother doesn't need to heat her single egg with her body, but she does protect the volcano in wich her baby is. One to one and a half years after hatching, when not fed by it's mother (she drops the food into the volcano) any more, they come out of the volcano and are taught essential skills by their mother.
In two more years they have no more contact with her, but the mother sitll flies around the island, protecting the adolescent dragon from her potential mates who would eat the whelp, so the mother would mate again. Adolescence is reached at 20 years, adulthood at 40 (all approximate numbers).
They mate every 8 years.
The difference between male and female black sea dragons in in wing colour (male dragons have darker wings), horns (male - larger horns) and the hardness of the belly (male dragons have a harder belly because they fight for mates and because they would be easily stabbed by the female's back spikes while mating.
Black sea dragons have kept their ability to breathe fire, because they eat fried meat since hatching and can not stand the taste of raw flesh. The dragon usually burn. the meat while carrying it in it's maw.
They grow (tail tip to nose) from 3 studs (1 metre), through 10 (3 metres) when they leave the volcano and 22-30 studs (10 metres) when they first mate, up to 40 (13 metres) studs upon death, largest found were at enormous 60 studs (20 metres) of length!
Game time!!! Find the cat on this creation!

Let's start with two dragon pictures...
And the island:
Random gold piece?
No, opening features!
Oh!
Actually, I have only while taking pictures learned that my sister had given me this candy in the volcano, I'm just as surprised as you guys are.
That is brilliant!! Your dragons rival the best on mocpages! This dragon is excellent! The lone black dragon parent is a beautiful creature to be paired with that volcano. The dragon's design is superb! Thanks for joining my group! Your creations are an excellent addition. I hope to see more of them!
I wouldn't go THAT far...Just not feeling the connection between it all, as opposed to Stormbringer's dragon coming out of the hill, or let's say for instance, the One Ring coming out of the volcano. It's still a wicked build, Dude, congrats!
You're doing a lot with a little here, and the result is magnificent. Clean flowing lines and excellent color blocking allow this MOC to make a "thumbnail impact" that I really enjoy.
I really liked the volcano landscape, and a nice surprise to see the details inside. The dragon and all the text didn't do much for me as far as the category was concerned, but if that's what you're into, fine. Good luck in round 2!
I am very happy to inform you that your entry has received a score of 36.14, and that this means you will be moving on to round 2! Congratulations and good luck in the games!
Very cool! The dragon is excellent, and as many have said before, that smoke is amazing! The baby is pretty cool, too. Great, no, fantastic creation! Hm. By the way, the black cat is in the 13th picture from the first two of the dragon pictures. Coincidence?... Again, great job!
Excellent smoke cloud and dragon designs. I'm loving that little critter too. Looks like there's going to be a couple of dragons popping up for round one it seems.
I have to agree with what almost everybody else said the smoke cloud steals the show. Although those dragon designs are very impressive. Keep up the good work!

I'm with Ru on this, that smoke cloud is nothing short of epic! My fav creature from HoMM is the Azure Dragon from HoMM3:AB, its such a fierce looking creature. My build itself has gone towards an Earth Elemental, inspired from WoW. ~Thoy
Well, I have to say you have an excellent taste in creatures, but personaly my favourite is the hydra, in II (my favourite fo the bunch). But a WoW themed MOC from you... Wow.
