Leda, Leda, Leda...Whoever said this was simple, doesn't know Jack! I've been waiting to say that for awhile now. Anyway, as I said elsewhere, what people need to realize is how this little vig creates a big emotional impact through color and action. Congrats, and good luck in the next round!
Thanks Bart. I actually was quite proud of this little moc, thanks for seeing beyond its simplicity... the second round however... mmm, bit tougher. Think I now have a bit of a "simplicity" complex.

Hi :). Well this moc has caused quite a storm (an ice storm ;). I think I made my thoughts on it very clear below. I really hope I dont meet you in the next round but good luck for the rest of the contest. I have a feeling your creative and well built mocs will do very well.
Thank you very much... As to all the conversation, I hope certain people come look at Dave Kaleta's critique so they can see how it is done. There is such a difference between constructive criticism and out and out rudeness. Some people need to sit back and learn from those who have come before. Best of luck to all who made it to round two!

Millie, Excellent idea, executed and presented well. The techniques were well utilized. The only area I felt was lacking was your tree build; not delicate enough for the size it was meant to represent. Thank you for sharing your take on the categories. ~Dave
Ah yes! I can totally see that now, you are right. That tree could have been beautiful, a delicate icicle creation, lots of fine parts... Thanks for that. I need to slow down next round... stand back from my build for a day or two and let it wash over me what I can do to improve.

This is awesome! The lighting is great! You used those clear bricks awesomely. The only thing I don't like about it, is the fact that there's no ice around Jack Frost, which is where I thought there'd be the MOST ice, rather than no ice at all. On the other hand, if you had built up the bricks in front of Jack, it would've looked weird. Oh well. Either way, it's STILL an awesome build. See you in round 2. |

I don't understand why I'm not allowed to have an opinion on this Mr. Bones, just because I don't have a bunch of models posted? Thats like me saying you can't have an opinion on movies because you're not a director. So I thought the model was simple, so what? I didn't know it was positive reviews only on MOCpages....but apparently when you don't agree with the crowd you get called names like "mor onic". Thanks for the warm welcome Mr. Bones. You're pretty awesome. |

The colors really go well together, especially illuminated by the intense , white light.A simple build, But turned into a spectacle to behold, due to the many dimensions of trans-dark blue pieces accompanied with the light-blue bricks giving it extra depth and color. |

I agree with Deus. For someone of your reputation as a great builder, this seems a little simple. I really like your Jack Frost minifig though, the hair is perfect! Maybe you know you'll get through this round easy, so you're holding back for round 2. Good luck in the contest! |

Thanks everyone for all your encouraging comments. Sorry some real life stuff has meant that I've been away from the pages for quite some time now, but its great to get such a warm welcome back. I wish all who are competing in this contest the best of luck :) |
|
|
Just because there's moc that is too simple for other builder's taste, it doesn't make it boring or uninteresting. It's the creativity and idea that counts.
Sure, there could be a highly detailed moc that stands out. But if it has no inspiration or thought to it, then it is worthless.
This creation here is brilliant. |

Not to mention the chap who posted that has zero creations. I expect mor onic talk from that Dues kid, but from someone who has no creations? Anyway folks, putting this together took her time, and something a lot of builders do not have...imagination. The lighting and presentation alone makes this moc most excellent! |

Reputation as a great builder? ...I didn't know I had that reputation... have you seen my mocs? Maybe its not clear in the photos but I actually found this to be quite a challenging little moc. Just because something is small doesn't mean it is simple. Perhaps I got carried away with the lighting of this and forgot to focus on showing you the actual design details and techniques I used to create the many layers of ice.

Thank you, but I must say that actually there is not one trans blue piece in the entire build. It is all clear pieces. The blue glow is created by the light blue background.

Jack Frost will be nipping at my nose soon enough, thank you. No need of you to remind me of how much I HATE WINTER! This model, however, I really love. Lots of energy created with the swirling trans coldy stuff, and fig choice and placement is spot on. The tree is a great touch (was it also a structural necessity? if so, fantastico!).
The tree (which I think looks a bit like broccoli)is just a beat below the roof however the lamppost does attach to the roof to give it that extra support so it doesn't slump.

Cheers Yuri, that is cool!

Totally insane! I'm loving it. At first I thought it was Mr. Freeze.
He was definitely an inspiration, as was Martin Short's performance in Santa Clause 3.
Quoting DeTomaso Pantera
The only thing I can see wrong is there are a few too many photos ;)
Ah yes. You have found my weakness. I always post too many pictures. You should see how many I actually take! It is a selfish reason, I like to have lots of reference of my mocs because in a few days, when the build is gone I don't want to forget what every aspect of it looked like. But I figure, you don't have to look at them all. I try to get a few main ones in at the start and then if the viewer looses interest then they are not handcuffed and held at knife point to keep looking at them all. |
