A new kind of Byte! I hope you like this one, guys.
About this creation
(Before any of you get excited, no, this is not a bionicle in any way other than physical build. Bytes and spheroids in my storyline originate entirely separately from any bionicle-related things, and in fact tie in more with ArcheoGenis, the Mysterions and MAOX. This guy is the newest breed of byte, the Femtabyte, which is sand green.)
Bytes are the equivalent of rahi to matoran, or domesticated animals to us humans. They are less intelligent than their spheroid masters/keepers but are crucial to the running of the network organism/planets they inhabit. Each plays a different role, but only Spheroids (Orbis sapiens) are truly self-aware. Bytes rarely leave their planet of origin. Unlike Spheroids, bytes are also born/manufactured with their body and are fused to it, unlike spheroids which can build, connect and disconnect at will. They also posess an eye with a pupil. Spheroid-vision works slightly differently, although Femtabytes get a little of both worlds.
Also note that the spheroid emotions and corresponding colours are based according to the Byte classifications.
Pigbyte's classification is "Femtabyte" as defined by us humans. Spheroids assosciate these bytes with fear and alarm. Considering the primary function of Femtabytes, this isn't surprising. They primarily act as surveillance systems, alarms and are the second most common form of byte to be found naturally outside a Spheroidia's atmosphere, in space.
The Femtabyte known as Pigbyte (Orbis sus) is a surveillance byte that operates widely throughout the internal passages of Spheroidia. Walking realively slowly on four pointed limbs, it constantly listens in on every sound in its surroundings, and watches for every radiation emission. Considering the dazzling lightshow and noise in a Spheroidia, this is no mean feat.
The scanner gun most Pigbytes are equipped with allows them to detect malfunctions, misemissions and viral corruption in other bytes as well as machines and surfaces. Any minor faults are reported directly to the nearest Neutral or Terrabyte in the area, depending on what is wrong and what sort of response is needed.
Sometimes the problem is more emergency status, such as the detection of alien signals within Spheroidia, or, worse, viral signals. At this point the Pigbyte collapses and flips over.
So now we see why it is called the pigbyte. When the Spheroidia on Deimos was penetrated, Pigbytes scanend the humans entering and immediately ran away in this form emitting a high-pitched screeching noise much like a small pig. They run quickly in a similar fashion. The name stuck.
The screeching is of course a warning signal accompanied by very complex blasts of radiation to all nearby Bytes and Spheroids - namely the Terrabytes. When it is a viral that is detected, the Pigbyte will even open fire on it as it flees, using the scanner gun as a powerful laser blaster.
The Femtabyte isn't completely my idea. It came from a brainstorm on Mibbit between myself, Clockwork Tempest and a few others. We saw that we never invented bytes for the hero-factory 1.0 spheres or the tan spheres available from one of the dinosaur sets. Since I have a lot of Sand-green we decided that I would create the Femtabyte, and CT (who isn't afraid of using Bricklink) would make the Non-emotional byte. He's still got other projects going on at the moment, though. The femtabyte (10^(15) bytes) used the colour I already used for fear on Spheroids, so their role as spies, surveillance and alarm drones was created to fit with that.
Also, I just love its expression on the main picture, listening out for stuff, don't you? :P
im confused on the gender it says +/- so is it a boy or a girl (not that it matters that much) really cool idea with the head!! I might have to try it out some time!! 5 smiles :D
The MOC is excellent(a tip of the hat for the sand-green kepi), but you got your facts wrong: in the International System of Units, the prefix for 10^15 is "peta-", and "femto-" is for 10^-15. Was "femta-" used at some point?
Ah, so this is the Femtabyte you were telling me about! Lovely work mate! Gotta love all that lovely Sand Green, amazing work mate! I really like how you used the sand green hat on him, nice work ;)
Awsome! The sphere-holding bit looks great. I just can't get over how brilliant the "knees" are! I'm going to have to steal them, I'm afraid. Terrific job.
SO ppl still talk in Mibbit? anyways, awesome new moc ! I really like the concept of bytes and it's actually a good thing that they are NOT bionicles. I thing we should start a group for Bytes and Spheroids !
