Avatar Scorpion Gunship Aerospatiale SA-2 Samson
Avatar's signature ship, the "Scorpion Gunship" Aerospatiale SA-2 Samson, sturdy enough for my 3 year old to fling around without breaking
About this creation
While this may seem to be a couple years too late in coming, it was JUST on time for me. This was basically a 2-day build, happening over the weekend after I got back from a 2-week overseas trip to the Czech Republic and France. After building it all in grey, I realized that the one the chick flew int he movie had a blue and white strip pattern on it. Oh well, maybe I'll modify the color scheme for BricFair in Alabama in January. Enjoy the pics.

Quoting Alex Sonny A superb design. The fans, the rotors, are very well made, the circular design is very smart.
Thanks. This baby had to give up some flesh recently for prototyping for another build. It pained me to disassemble the rotors.

Excellent build! Did you see George's massive ship he displayed at Brickworld? That thing was beefy. I love how you made the engines. The shape and overall design is great.

Quoting Brothers Merz Looking good man, good editing as well. She looks a bit blocky (10 stud wide?) but you captured the look and feel perfectly.
Yeah, 10 studs wide, and I think it should have been even wider by a little. The SA-2 Samson is a pretty wide and low ship. Looking at the head-on profile of the ship, you can see that it really should be 2 studs wider, but coming up with a canopy configuration that is 12 studs wide eluded me,...given my limited parts inventory.

Quoting Nathan Goulding GREAT build. One correction though. The "Scorpions" depicted in the movie were the smaller, single-seat fliers. What you have built is an SA-2 "Sampson" light transport, NOT an AT-99 "scorpion".
Nathan, yeah I realized this about 2 weeks into unsuccessful Google image searches for it. That's why I put the words "scorpion gunship" inside of quotes. It's such a more glamourous name than Aerostapiale SA-2 Samson. This is a more hits idea.

Very nice work. The cockpit doesn't look too crowded and lots of room in the cargo area (for drinking from the looks of it). Great build.
