My entry for the 2011 Bio-Cup Round 3. My opponent is the great Adam Toh. Match-up number 8. Category: #8: Insectoid Rahi. The topic is to build a rahi that resemble any insect of you choice. I chose a Praying Mantis. Good luck Adam and may the best man win.

His entry.
Common Name: Giant Mantis
Matoran Nickname: "Bringer of Death"
Scientific Name: Mantis Orantes (Praying Mantis in Latin)
Description: "A huge, insect-like rahi with a very bad temper." - Unknown matoran.
Traits: Huge, black claws on ends of arms and huge orange eyes.
Main colors: Gray and Black
Environment: Anywhere, as long as food is available.
Full Description: The Giant Mantis is a very common creature throughout Mata Nui. They live in all types of environments, as long as food is plentiful. They are known to eat other rahi, and drink raw protodermis. They grow very huge, growing bigger than a normal matoran. They often seek homes in high altitude areas, where they tend to thrive. The Giant Mantis has no known predators, but they will turn on one another once mating season is over. The female will kill it's mate by eating the male's head. The male will survive in this headless stage for a week, until dying of starvation. These Mantis's can't fly, unlike their ancestors. They can be tamed as pets, but it takes many years of training and commitment to domesticate one.
To the moc!

Size comparison with my other Bio-Cup entries, Mogu and Folfo.

One final 'staring you down' picture.

And finally, my comparison picture.
FOURTH WALL: I am very pleased with this build. 5 hours of work, countless designs for the head, and 30 minutes just trying to make it so it would stand up. It was a pain to build, but I am very proud of the finished project. I may actually leave this one together. I hope to go to the next round, but with Adam Toh in my way, I think I am going to lose. I hope I do good!
Judges, do your thing!
Constructive criticism and comments are appreciated as always! KP out!

Great moc! It uses many interesting designs, and strikes an amazing resemblance to praying mantises.
Thanks! |

This is really cool looking! You really captured that praying mantis look. I have not seen this yet but I have seen your buddy icon and it has this look to it that reminds me of "The Fallen" from transformers.
You know, I never thought of that. It kind of does! Thanks for the comment. |

Even tough you lost on the cup, I think this is a great MOC. Uses some good techniques and a quite nice head. Could use some better coloring, but still, very nice.
You are definitely right about that. It has already been ripped apart, much to my disliking, for a new moc in a moc-off. Thanks for the comment! |

Wow cool man. So regarding Galvis entering the comic, he can't crash land in Ghetta Nui because at no point does the comic take place there. You may have to give me some more info before i can determine if he'll fit into the comic! |

Very accurate Peckham! I know this'll be a close match. Good luck against Adam. :)
Thanks man! I hope it will be a close match. I wanted to see how far I could make it in this contest, so far I am surprised at how well I have done. Oh, and I need the luck against Adam. Thank you and good luck against Owl! |

NICE! It looks very accurate! Lovely work on the head and back :D I'm not too sure about the colour scheme though, still, a great entry!
I asked about the colors. One of the judges said that it would probably be fine, as long as the insect in it is recognizable. Thanks! |

Nice! I'm surprised this didn't use the barbed hook pieces from the Baraki sets...Tamen, great work! Esp. on the head! Gook luck! :D
I would have used them, but I don't have any Barraki sets. :/ Thanks for the comment! |
