This is a more recent design that I still haven't had the heart to dismantle. I think of it as a model ship, just made out of legos. It was annoying to me that most all lego sailing ships that I had seen never had more than about 6 cannons while real ships of the line would regularly have from 20 to 150 or more.



The HMS Dragon is a 26 gun frigate: twelve 12-pounders, ten 9-pounders, and four swivel guns on the fore and aft. This makes is a realistically equipped, it somewhat small frigate. The design is based heavily on the HMS surprise and on a few ships that I saw in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is missing the top gallants and the spanker sail, but I just didn't get around to cutting those out.





The features that I'm most proud of are the hinge and rail system the allows the ship to open up into four sections for internal access and then close back up again. There is also a retrofit that I'm working on right now to make the helm turn the rudder along with all the currently operational anchor and cargo winches and the deployable jolly boats. Lastly, the captain's cabin in the back folds open by lowering the back wall and lifting out the ceiling. I will likely add more photos when the retrofit is done.

How on earth could I miss this beauty? The four sections opening up is very clever. Excellent execution, reminds me of my Flaming Remnant! It sits proudly on my shelf nowadays.
