Tinicyti -- an exercise in microbuilding
Me, build in pseudo-micro scale? For shame!
About this creation

Welcome to Tinicyti, where I adapt and expand upon ideas from the Lego Master Builder Academy. For this exercise, I took the airport runaway tower, tweaked it a touch to make it a luxury hotel, and then build a city around it. The building with the green sloped roof is the adapted part, and the spaceship in "Adventure Plaza" was part of the kit as well; the rest of the build is all me (for better or worse).

I had originally thought I'd make up some funny backstory to go along with this, but since my posts rarely crack more than 100 looks I'm just not going to bother. I built this in about a week, working in 15-20 minute spurts. Most of the buildings went through at least two versions, except the tallest tower, which is unchanged. The metroline, the high-speed commuter train that runs into the city (that's the big yellow strip of tile supported by blue slopes) was the last thing I added simply because I ran out of ideas and wanted to post something.

The MBA microbuilding kit is pretty nice (again, too much lime green, Lego!) and has some great ideas. I didn't like the airplane model that was to go with the runway -- it was too big.

Just in case you're wondering, yes, I'm probably going to use this for some establishing shots in an upcoming comic. Comment, criticize, do whatever you want. I'm really apathetic about the whole thing.

I have to say that is some excellent micro work. Sleek design and the whole city flows very well.

I love this! You have taken to microscale much better than I did. I'm still trying to get my MBA build done for microscale. Lots of good parts usage here. I like the incorporation of the MBA kit as well.

Nice work Dennis, some lovely designs in there and a different building style to most. Lets see some more soon.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to chime in with Chris and Dave and demand more micro building from you Dennis-there's some really cool shapes going on with a lot of these buildings.

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy I believe this is for the Space Pirates series, right? Looking forward to it.
You, sir, are correct! If all goes as planned, it should appear sometime in September. Pre-production begins later this week (I hope).

Quoting Stacy Sterling Hooray for microbuilding! I like the use of the grills for the windows on the main building - hopefully we'll see more of these soon?!
Well, relatively soon. I liked the fact I was able to work on it in spurts, so I'll probably do more modules for it once school cranks up again.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Very nice. I was a bit worried, because I need to make one myself, later this year or early next. But since it's something even you can build with ease and great results, I'm not worried anymore.
Thanks, I think.

Quoting El Barto ! Nice one, Dude! Good variety in there. Quite similar to my little microcity, in fact. But I just used mine as a background in a forced perspective scene. Is that what your intention is? I recall you mentioning a fp project in the works, but thought it was for a castle?
Castle and space. Two different projects, but same basic skill set.

I liked the observation building but agree with Dave in the fact that I want to see more of this type of build from you! I only recall one other microbuild from you off the top of my head and that one (a forced perspective if I remember correctly) was awesome (as is this). I think you really have a knack for this and should continue some ideas with it! ~ Chris.

Honestly - not your best work with crooked grills, etc. An interesting study though. I would suggest scrapping it and trying again as you are heading along the right track. Lee.

Quite nice Dennis. You've got a knack for this scale. I'd love to see you expand it a little and add a little more space between the buildings so we can see what's going on.
