An overview of the complex as seen from the East River. Construction started in 1947 and finished in 1952. The site is dominated by the 39 story Secretariat Building. FDR drive runs along the river and passes beneath the center. The model is constructed upon two large 15”x15” baseplates
This is a new glass façade technique for me. A trans blue plate and tile are stacked together and then wedged between black 1x2x2 panels that provide the detail of a small dividing spandrel. The “windows” themselves are held firmly in place by a friction fit.
One of my favorite details is this spiral underground parking ramp in front of the entrance to the Secretariat Building..
The dome of the General Assembly Building. The flags of the member nations lie along First Avenue to the right.
Wow Spencer! Amazing job. I love how you did the general assembly building! I actually toured Mahattan via double decker bus yesterday and when we passed this building, the tour guide said that the entire complex is undergoing extensive rennovations because the buildings aren;t lasting as long as they originally intended them to. Just a little fun fact! Anyway, great overall job!
