MBA: Scout Craft Variation
My variation on Kit One of the Lego Master Builder Academy series.
About this creation

I received a subscription to the Lego Master Builder Academy and although its intended market is younger builders, I do find it interesting and fun. Plus, it's got some nice parts. For a good overall review of the program, I'll link you to my friend Dave Sterling's post. Go ahead, read Dave's review and then come on back to check out what I've done. For those of you looking to improve your skill or just get some new ideas, the MBA is a fun thing. I'm really glad I got it since it comes with one of the new cockpit canopies, which is a big plus. I just received kit two (microbuilding) in the mail and will post a review on it soon (unless Dave beats me to it, that is).

Like Dave, I followed the rules and used only parts contained in the kit and I included a little sideways building and the locking technique (not new concepts to me, but a little reinforcement now and then doesn't hurt. Just ask Pavlov's dog.)

And now, on to the photos of my scout craft. Let's call it "The Rejuvenator," shall we?

The wings serve as solar collectors ... yeah, that sounds good. They're a little too big for this creation I think, but I'm pretty pleased with it overall. And for some reason, I get the feeling the MBA kit designers were told to use as much lime green as possible. It should add enough into my collection that I can actually use it from time to time.

Microbuilding review coming soon, so watch this space!

Nice work Dennis! I think the long wings work just fine with this craft. As others have said, they give it light, nimble, and glider-like qualities. The smaller engine detail at the back just adds to that overall feeling. The wing sweep is nice as well...used some hinges there did ya? As others have said, the MBA program is somewhat simple, but I think those of us who are doing it have enjoyed the simplicity of it. It's nice to back away from mega-creations and just have fun seeing what you can do with <200 pieces. I'm looking forward to the Microbuild, but you'll probably beat me to it. I've got Airventure Oshkosh next week so I will be out for a few days. Again, nice work!

Just remember to tie a string to this little plug before it gets inserted anywhere. Nice clean lines makes for an easy wash-up after too - good thinking. Lee.

Cool little craft you got here! After the new DC and Marvel announcement, I may need to save a bit more of my money than originally intended....so I will have to live vicariously through you and Dave for the time being.

Quoting Legofreak2444 ~ Sweet! The tips they leave are so l@me though, "Use snot work here". :P
Yeah, you have a point. Keep in mind they are trying to help folks who aren't very experienced become better builders, so it has to be very basic and obvious. Remembering that helps keep me from saying, "No, duh!" when I glance through the manual.

I really like this - nice efficient shape with an interesting and unusual colour scheme used effectively to highlight the design. I actually like the long but delicate wing structure, makes me immediately think the ship is nimble and light.

Quoting Mark Kelso Wow, not bad for a hack like you. Saw Sterling's version, as well. Kinda fun to see the variations from different builders. Personally, I would've just used the white, photoshopped it to bley, and then turned it into a SHIP...but, you know...that's just me.
Wow! You consider me a hack? That is high praise indeed! I've moved up from banana slug, wahoo!

Nice variation! The elongated wings remind me of modern gliders.
