Please dont paint your figures. It is great for a first try but what type of paint are you using? It really matters because some types of paint dont work well on some plastics. I would NOT recomend enamel, acrylic, or watercolor paints. Try to find a type of paint that dries smooth, semi-glossy, and doesnt run. That should be best.
