Treebeard attempts to breach the walls of Orthanc with a massive boulder, but to no avail. Not even a scratch is left in the hardened walls of the ancient tower.
About this creation
My entry for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Contests: The Two Towers. As you can see, Treebeard is finding it difficult to dent the walls of Orthanc, while the Uruk-hai continue to forge their terrible weapons of war down below in the valley of Isengard...unaware that they are about to be taking a long swim.
I know this may not be 100% accurate to the book or the movie, but my copy of the book is currently packed away, and I haven't seen the movie since it was in the theatre...so sue me. ;P

I had a little accident when I was setting up for the photo shoot, but I liked the way this looked. So, I have a nice "accidental cut-away" shot for you.

A close-up of the forges of Isengard. Those industrious little orcs don't know what's coming. XD

A detail shot of the spire. This is supposed to represent only one corner of the many-walled tower of Orthanc and is my own interpretation of what it may look like. I'm not really a fan of the Jackson films' representation, and this kind of makes me want to flesh this out into a full-on MOC of Isengard...though I don't have the pieces to do that. *sigh*

A close-up of Treebeard's attack. I do wish this was a 12x12 base, so he didn't feel so crowded, but overall I'm happy. I think the scaling between Treebeard and the tower seemed a bit off at first, but then I thought about the trees in my neighborhood and how they reach to about 100-150 feet tall and they're only about a hundred years old. Treebeard is ancient, so I figured he could definitely stand at least that tall, if not more.

Here's an artsy top-down shot for those who appreciate artsy-ness. ;)

And finally, a solo shot of Treebeard's front ^ and back v .

Thanks for stopping by, and wish me luck in my first MOC contest, ever! :)

Nice work!!!! You totally stole my idea though!! I was/am going to make this scene in minifig scale for the LOTR two towers contest. lol!!! If it's alright than could I still keep that plan? Or do you want me to change my idea? I sort of started building it already, but I can still change it. Great work on this entry. Tree Beard looks to big though. Great work otherwise!!!
I don't think there is anything that says you can't create your own take on the same scene, and I certainly don't have a problem with it. In fact, I welcome seeing other versions! I love the different views of the "bombing of the grate" from the Helm's Deep battle that we've seen in this round, as it really shows how different people approach the same scene in their own vignettes and styles. :) However, if you are wanting to enter the LOTR Trilogy contests, you are too late, as judging started on Sunday. :( I hope you'll still do yours if that is the case, though, as I would love to see a minifig scale version of this.

This is a very good miniscale but Treebeard is too big or Orthanc is to small Orthanc is 32 times taller than treebeard.
You know...I should have searched for "How tall is Treebeard" before building this. I just went with the idea that he would be as tall as a very old tree...but that was wrong of me. Sorry for the inaccuracy, I just have this image in my head of ents being very tall, and fifteen feet just doesn't seem right to me. Silly Tolkein. ;)
Everyone, thank you for the kind comments. This is actually my very first MOC of this nature, and I appreciate the feedback. Looking forward to the Return of the King portion of the contests. *evil laugh* |

Very good! Your cave is awesome, and the design for Orthanc is interesting to say the least. Orthanc should be taller, but this is a very good moc. |
