RaS Consortium "Lamprey" Class Mining Ship
The Resource and Salvage Consortium's primary mining vessel, the Lamprey serves the Consortium with metal reserves and as mobile light salvage yards.
About this creation

Corporation: Resource and Salvage Consortium
Homeworld: Verdic, RaS Consortium Claim world

Lampreys are a common enough sight amongst the Corporate Territories. Because they procure precious resources, such as metals and crystalics, and because they can act as salvage and repair stations, most corporations tolerate, and some even encourage their presence within their respective controlled Territories.

Lampreys are not intended for long distance travels other than moving from an exhausted resource mine to another richer in minerals. They are powered by 4 main drives, which use more conventional enhanced chemical engines. Lampreys require special tenders and tankers for making long distance journeys possible. One should also note the small hangar located on the side of the Lamprey. This hangar is used to store the four surveyor craft, often salvaged fighters refitted with surveyor's sensors though the Consortium does produce its own surveyors. It is also used for small shuttles and craft that are visiting the Lamprey.

Lampreys are called so because of the six mining rig clamps mounted to the top of the ship. This allows the mining ship to latch onto the asteroid that it will work, much the way a Lamprey fish will latch onto larger sea creatures. These clamps also act as airlocks for the miners to allow them onto the surface of the asteroid. The miners work directly from the Lamprey so no other surface strutures are needed, aside from necesary structural supports for certain equipment.

The side docking clamps are used for docking to larger ships to transfer supplies and/or resources, and for salvage efforts. Lampreys are not armed, as space is at a premium and is nearly always guard by either a Consortium detachment, or often has a contract with the local corporation for protection in exchange for a cut of the profits/resources and for light repair and salvage services.

CULTURAL NOTE:

The RaS Consortium is one of the least corporate-like entities to exist within the Corporate Territories. They more closely resemble a guild of freelancers than an organized and profitable corporation. While they do maintain a small, self governed territory, called their Claim, most vessels work outside of this area, either alone or in small groups. Each seperate group pay dividends into the Consortium, and the Consortium supports their efforts through political and financial means.

Quoting Peter Mowry Wow Again, you sure have a talent in great back storys on your creations. Really like the Lamprey. Again keep it up.
Thanks. The stories come to me when I'm bored, and I entertain them until I'm able to write them down. I have a very large wealth of material to draw from.

Quoting Mithryl Dlarix Awesome ship, though the colors and shape make it look somewhat amphibious.
If it wasn't so large, it just might be. This hull is also commonly used with gas mining rigs used in gas giants, so you might say that it is indeed somewhat amphibious.

Quoting dorian dayton You should make a frame contest. And also you should make an exiled exo force member who joined mecha 1 and is a cyborg. His mech should be rediculously armed. Also KILL MORE CLONES!
Thank you for your enthusiasm, but I'm afraid that this is not the place for it. Please refer to my mecha MOCs, for comments regarding mecha.

Quoting Mike C I like how the front of the ship looks. It has a griddy work feel to it. Very nice looking ship.
Thanks. The Consortium is like a sort of Junk Guild, you might say, and most of their stuff will be patched up and salvage repaired.

Quoting dorian dayton Hey jason when could you get around to making mechs again and I would like to know if possible how you get the click joints and the ball joints
I am actually working on a few projects as we speak. The problem is, I'm short of parts, and I won't be getting them for a while. And LDD just can't satisfy my mecha itch. So I have to stand by with mostly ships for a while. If you would like help with building though, you can email me at jadom516@hotmail.com and I would be happy to offer any assistance I can.
