The Hobbit: Mirkwood
An entry for Aidan Moon's Hobbit contest. This vig depicts the spiders of Mirkwood forest preparing to devour the twelve dwarves. Bilbo is their only hope! Enjoy!
About this creation

The side of the vig. The rules of the contest say no stud overhang, but it specifies that, "a cape, leg, or tree branch is fine." *Phew!* 12. Hi Grace! If you have gotten this far, congratulations. One more clue! Ring the doorbell of our family's favorite rodent!

Thorin Oakenshield has just been cut loose by Bilbo and released from his fibrous prison.

Bomber is next! I played Gollum in a play of the Hobbit once, and the kid who played Bomber I still call "The Bomb" to this day! The idea of using rubber bands as spider webbing is (unfortunately) not my idea. Christopher Baldacci is using the technique in a project that he is working on. I got a sneak peak!

The Spider! I over-exposed the eyes so that they glow red.

A full pic of the arachnid, undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges of this MOC.

Bilbo shimmies his way over to "The Bomb's" resting place. In front of him hangs webbing from where Thorin was hanging.

A close-up of the Hobbit.

The vig un-figged! Hey! It rhymes!

The giant spider! Balancing it on the tree was VERY difficult.

The Dwarves: Thorin Oakenshield and Bomber.

And last (but DEFINITELY not least): Bilbo Baggins!

Thanks for Viewing!

Excellent! That spider is spot-on to how envisioned them when I first read the book. The tree is very well built, too, and I love how you used a battle droid for webbing (I use them for chicken and sheep in this MOC http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/345586 ) One of my favorite chapters as it shows Bilbo's true bravery once again. "Lazy lob and crazy cob!"

Quoting Ben King Wow! One of the best the hobbit mocs I've ever seen! I like the figs a lot, where did you get bilbo's shirt? The only thing that could be improved is that I think it says in the book that the trees are black.
I agree, I could have made the tree at least dark brown. I do think though that the reason the trees are black is because of all of the other trees blocking the sun. If there were more I probably would have done so. Thanks! I forgot about that fact.

Excellent spider and great Bombur! (But wasn't Thorin captured by the elves and why has he black hair?) Nice job anyway! I missed so many Hobbit MOCS here... It's probably the first about that scene. Keep it up!!!

Despite the fact that this isn't entirely accurate, this is indeed a very great MOC; very clean yet very intricate. The images are also of very high quality. Great job! 4/5.

I never meant that the inaccuracy was necessarily a bad thing. The only thing that has really bothered me with this MOC is the spider's design: tires on the back.

Quoting Paul Vermeesch Well done Max. I now have arachnophobia.
Well it's a good thing you have chickens.
Quoting Ian Spacek Go Bilbo, go!!! Well done Max! But I don't think Thorin is in the spider part, he was already captured by the elves at that point...
OH YEAH!!!! Forgot about that one!

I have never actually seen a Hobbit movie, but my creation it is a bit inaccurate.

I know it is inaccurate. If it were really correct, The spider wouldn't be there, but I had to add him in for effect.

Very impressive. I really dig the proportions of the vig. The whole scene with all the details is recognisable in an instant. I believe there's no need to wish you best of luck, you've already shown best building skills.
