I haven't tried them, they are pretty uncomfortable. I will say you can see red and blue through the eye holes if you line up the pins...they work better in a fantasy setting.

Very cool and original! As a purist, I don't see any problems using non-LEGO elements in a non-LEGO contest, so you shouldn't apologize at all! And hey! Since you got the transluscent paper film from the LEGO Magazine, in a weird sorta way, it really isn't non-LEGO at all! Great job, and I hope you do/did well in the contest!

I think the purists would cut you some slack on the lens, after all it's from Lego. These look great, Dude! Very intricate. But makes me think of a Steampunk Borg! Got a new episode,if you get a chance...Later!
