another step closer to completion!
About this creation
hi folks!
my name is cyberfrank!
i m the tough guy with the leather jacket!
i m with the master architect of alta-5!
and a few other great creators!...
just like you!
i chose to present this like that,
because it s how i started!
...and most of us do!!
a truck, a car, a few figs, with no story!

if things go well for you, you should get up to this...
a couple of nice cars, figs, structures, monster trucks, spaceships, ect...

COOP!!!
i won t tell you exactly how to build,
but, we need a standard, in order for me to reproduce your CITY or buildings,
or vice-versa,
panel building seems to be the way for me!
since it s my intention to have friends as moderators,
i found it best to make it easy for them...
by labeling PHASES...
having 2 green base plates and bricks would be PHASE 1
for building a CITY on ALTA-5!
PHASE 1
is the minimal requirement for a licensed CITY lot on alta-5!
it should be the hardest part of your quest!
the rest...you should already have it!
for just a building;
respect road whidts, street parkings, and sidewalk standards please.
I go for real, so should you, it s quite simple.

it s easy to figure space with a few green base plates,
since it s exactly the same as road plates!

as i progressed from 'gravel' to pavement, so will you...in your own way!
of course, 2 green base plates does nt make a big city!
but, fortunately for you, it s ideal for the story scheme!
as opposed to the main stream, a newcomer is who i adress here!
if you want to be a part of something greater...
this is it!...

chief urban planner;
ok citizens..or to be...
i m here to help you get 'licence to build' a CITY on alta-5!
once i share these precious infos, you ll see things differently!
you ll see them with experience!...namely...mine!
so you ll save a lot of time avoiding common mistakes!
and not just on alta-5!
see these nice roads here?
yeah! spacey aren t they?
lots of place to BUILD!...... large!!!

but...wait! we actually NEED the space!!!
that s right! we need the space for STREET PARKINGS!
otherwise, it will be cramped!

if you think about it...
the lego city scale is based upon the size of the road plates!
so, unless you re willing to build your roads with bricks....
you ll have to limit yourself to a vehicle width of 6-6 1/2...
otherwise, it won t fit!

now don t get me wrong, building roads with bricks is possible!
some people have acheived it with great succes!
but, it s very expensive, and laborious, i raise my hard hat for those
who will chance that 'road' lol!
i won t explain panel building in lenght here...
but, it was a good occasion to demonstrate their usefulness, and practicality!
i ll cover the technique further...in a future post!
in the meanwhile, you can study those!
respect the standard; 8x 2x 8'high!
see how you can respect this, while variations sign your style on it!
now, everybody owns the 1 and 2 wide bricks!
it s the base! that s why i chose it, mostly!

now look at this carefully!
the structure has been brought to the edge of the base plate!
while it s true you ll save space, and allow for a bigger building...
VVVRRRRROOOOOUUUMM

hunnnngh!...you really need the space for sidewalks!
especially with someone like zoltar!!!

aahhh! much safer!!!
always save yourself 6' wide for commercial and industrial
streets and avenues s sidewalks!!!
in residential, you can risk 4' wide!

now look at how this street breathes!
plenty of parking space! and modern madness...heu...traffic!!!
once here, we can say you re at PHASE 2!!!
PHASE 2

now by studying the many lego cities around the world, as i did...
you ll find people that go to extremes to gain build space...
only to find once completed, that something does nt quite look right...

others don t want to hear about scale!
if a fig fits...it s scaled right!....
i chose this vehicle to explain this grey zone...
for this kind of vehicle...it s ok! it s 'hero-'bad guy' stuff...
but, when the postman, swat, or bank truck, [ect]
rolls over figs to accomplish it s duties...
you KNOW something s wrong...right?
+
ULTIMATELY
one of my ambitious project would be a MULTI-CITY rally!!!
we ll need the WIDEST ROADS POSSIBLE!
if it goes well, i can see the day where the race cars
will have to cross multiple creators s cities!!!

well, what do YOU think?
as usual, i ll comment in return for your opinion on the topic!
what do you think of the municipal code ?

Hi cf,
I'm amazed by your enthusiasm and effort you put into this. I wonder how you find all the time for this. Your idea sounds very interesting. Maybe I'll build something too as time permits, but I can't promise. Anyway good luck with this project and I'll keep on watching ;-)
Cheers

it s understandable! if you read all ALTA-5 posts, you ll understand that i redefine the building technique for a specialised reason...COOP , reproduction! and also yes for the street parkings! once the races start...it will be obvious you need the space!!!

yes I also have that doubt, do have to build in panel stile because modular is the way to go for me, especially on my Parque de Bombas, i am almost half way through and its already going to be modular, and the sidewalk situation, my layout has a side walk just no street parking, do all city's have to have street parking?? -Paulo R. |

for the comments...it s a real pleasure commenting your work tom, you re daring, and very imaginative,+ you have a great eye for style!!!

Hey Frank! This is a very helpful and inspiring post! I wish I had the time, space and money to build a city like yours. I would certainly take your advice if I did. There is no stopping me trying my hand at architecture though but I might be limited to just one building. I will definitely build a minifig scale building sometime in the near future and I will be using your panel building technique, it's genius. I must thank you for the million comments you made on my recent mocs lol, as always I very much appreciate your opinion and feedback. Thanks again Superstar Frank :) P.S. I like your sig fig :) |
