My last minute entry to the Flexible Figure Contest! I was going through my old books and found an old STARWARS episode I picture book. I had heard about the contest and knew I needed to build the classic scene for my entry. After several long, days of hard maneuvering to get the right look, I present: Duel of the Fates!
About this creation
When Darth Sideous's new apprentice threatens to assassinate Padme Amidala in Theed Palace, Naboo, Jedi Qui-Gonn Jin and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to kill the dark threat. They meet the double-sabered foe and fight him to a deep pit, where Qui-Gonn is stabbed and Obi-Wan is forced to face his nemesis alone. After chopping his twin saber in half, Obi Wan is knocked into a pit, where he hangs for dear life as Darth Maul prepares to slice him in half. Please enjoy!

This is the picture I copied from. I tried to keep it as close to the real thing as possible.

Obi-Wan hanging precariously off the heating pole. I love the flexible, dangling legs pose I was able to do.

Darth Maul, now minus the GIMP effects has his lightsaber raised in striking position using a flexible fig pose.

Maul from the side.

A close up of the snotted brim of the pit, with accurate spaced lights from the picture.

Obi-Wan, holding on for dear life!

The whole vignette, figless. There is TONS of SNOT that went into this, including some tough work with 1x1s to great the white on the back, top wall, and the curved brim. The angled side lights were hard, too.

The back of the vig to show there is no stud overhang from the 8x8 base.

The backs of Maul and Kenobi. It took me literally hours to get these right, sitting over my desk with the legs, rubber pands and a pin.

Here is Maul on a white background, because it is easier to see.

The fronts of Maul and Kenobi, in their poses.

And the final artistic shot, with Maul's legs still leaning on the edge of the pit while his body falls away in the distance.
Thanks for viewing! May the best MOC win!

The theme would sound really good here, you can use the new tag: You can also set it to autoplay and loop, although the loop would annoy people. An autoplay would be good, if you'll put a disclaimer. You can set it to be unseen too. |
