Batmobile Tumbler in Technic. From Batman Begins
About this creation
Batman Begins Batmobile “Tumbler” in Lego Technic.
By Mike Loh
Before I began this project I had written to Lego asking them if they would ever release a Technic version of the Tumbler and their reply was “No” and said that I can built it myself. And I thought why not? Isn’t that the whole point of Lego’s?
When I was a kid I'd played with Lego’s then I grew up and got a job as a graphic designer for Ad Agencies and forgot about Lego’s. Then I saw the Batman Begins movie and I was totally inspired again to build something with Lego’s.I decided to buy something that would have the necessary parts for the Tumbler and was “technical” enough to work almost like the real car.
Before I knew it I had bought about four Technic sets, mostly trucks and a F1 racer that all the flat panel parts, springs and black colored pieces that could be used for making the Tumbler. A year and a half later I had gathered enough research materials with over 1000 pictures and videos of the Tumbler from every conceivable angle including some accurate schematics all acquired over the internet. If I had half a million bucks I could actually built this thing for real.
Since I don’t, it could only materialize as a Lego interpretation. I had built it over 4 times, with each stage refining it until it looks something like the real thing. The object was to build it with a working drive train linked to a v8 engine, working front and rear suspensions and it all had to be proportionately accurate to the real Tumbler. One of the most prominent features of the Tumbler was the 4 large wheels in the back. And since everything else but the wheels can be modified in size so I based the length and width of the car on the back wheels. I took pictures of my own creation and overlaid it in Photoshop with an actual schematic and compared the proportions. This process of refinement and also working pretty much 1-2 days a week (I had a 9 to 7 day job) took me about one and half years to built it.
The last stage is to shoot it professionally design a mock package if it were to be released as a real set from Lego.
As for the Motorized version I have already explored the possibility using a RC Racer Buggy (8475)and about to start the motorized RC capable Tumbler. Stay Tuned!
Enjoy the pictures! Thanks for the Suggestions and kind reviews.

Hey, i was wondering if by chance you ever created instructions for this magnificent model?
If i had a program that I can use to rebuild in 3D then I would be able to output it. Is there such a program? I've had no luck. I would also rebuild this thing in less parts and more functional flaps and such. Also the steering would have to be re-engineered. |

Supaaaaah!!!
I admire your work and it's great to take a look at the most precisely resembling Lego Batman Tumbler ever made. Lego should hire you for some heavy duty projects to build some good stuff.
Also I do like to build large scale models using Lego. There are some future school projects in which I'm going to use Lego as well, because my education is about industrial product design. Like you did, I made out a red pickup sports truck and photographed it on ice to resemble the real thing for school presentations.
Keep going the good work.
PS: I also like your large scale Titanic. |

This is John, your former manager from Dairy Barn in Baldwin. How the heck are you? It is good to see that you now have a girl you can call your own. Hey do you have a Facebook Account? Let's keep in touch.

Everyone who wants a Lego Tumbler should copy the link to this page and send your request for Most Wanted Lego Sets to Lego directly. There's a minifig version of Tumbler coming out, not sure why they're not making a TEchnic version. |

This thing is utterly stupendous (see dictionary.com) If you pitch it to Lego surely they could release it as an official model (with enough support). I'd buy one in a snap! They've done it with the UCS Falcon... |
