A portrait, rendered from a photograph of my ex-wife, and my 1st creation.
About this creation
A portrait of my ex-wife, Briana. The original photograph was taken by her boyfriend (we're all still good friends). She and he are both photographers, so when I told them I wanted a forward lit, dark background, black and white headshot specifically for this project, I knew they'd deliver the perfect product. It didn't take much tweaking at all before I had the render and could start building.
Originally I thought it'd be a good gift for her, but I realized she would've never consented to owning a 20in x 30in portrait of herself constructed completely out of Legos. So I gave it to her parents instead. They loved it.
It was finished in October of 2010. Unfortunately I never took very detailed pictures of it before it changed hands. Then I had a hard drive crash and lost the original designs. But I think it was around 800 or so pieces. 96x64 stud-wise. One layer of plates is the black background, the next layer of plates is the picture itself. I loved the feeling of positive space in that.
