Imperial Dreadnaught
About this creation
Figured I'd have a go at creating the Dreadnaught, a war ship from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Dreadnought is an old lightly shielded, slow warship dating back decades before the start of the Clone Wars.

Its biggest fault is the requirement of 16,000 crew members needed to man the ship; however the integration of slave circuitry and Droid assistance has reduced this from either 2000 to 5000 required.

Despite these drawbacks the vessel is not only employed by poorer star systems as part of its defence fleet but is still in service to the the Empire or eithen the Rebel Alliance. Where as the Empire would upgrade and refit them the Rebellion however converts them in to Assault Frigates; something I hope to make as well in the future.

The Katana Fleet

The Katana Fleet composed of 200 hundred Dreadnaught vessels and was also referred to as 'The Dark Force', it was an attempt to restore the Republic Navy to its old Glory days. However a Hive virus of some kind broke out causing epidemic of insanity that resulted in the entire fleet making a jump in to random Hyperspace.

The fleet was lost and remained so for decades until it was discovered by the smuggler Captain Hoffner. Eventually Grand Admiral Thrawn also learnt of the fleet's existence and succeeded in acquiring a 178 of the Dreadnoughts.

Although it was believed Thrawn would not be able to use them due to requiring 300.000 hands to operate the 178 Dreadnaughts, he made use of the cloning technology he had acquired from the Emperor's secret storehouse and filled his ranks and his new fleet with clones.

One thing about Dreadnaughts which is often mentioned is their resemblance to Battlestars, since I don't think I'll ever have the time and bricks to build any BG Mocs I figured I'd use what I got and make some pods for it.

The back story being due to the need for efficient ships to fill its navy and compete with the Rebel Assault Frigates; the Empire finds ways to improve the performance and usage of the Dreadnaughts in its fleet. One solution is converting it's TIE hanger bay in to an extra power plant room for additional power output, although it dose deprives the Dreadnaught of accommodating its own fighter squadron. A solution however is found by attaching two large hanger bay pods to both its port and starboard sides.

This not only increases the Dreadnaughts ability to accommodate nearly thirty TIEs rather than twelve but also gives it an advantage over the Assault Frigates.

Yet, as is the case with Imperial hardware, some of it dose find its way in to the hands of the Rebel Alliance.

i really like your Dreadnaught. I'm sorry it took so long from the time you commented on my ships, but I haven't been on MOCpages in a while. The mods you did at the end are very interesting. Keep up the great work.

Quoting Topher Adams awesome dreadnought, they weren't poorly armed though they had fairly impressive firepower which was why both fleets ran to get the katana fleet. they were the strongest ships of the old republic which is why they used them for Outbound Flight.
Guess I should edit my data on it, thanks for your comment.

Thank you for commenting on my ships and for letting me know you have a Dreadnaught too. Yours is very well done. I especially like the round pods on the sides and the Katana fleet shot. I would have loved to make my MOCs in this larger scale, but a combination of shortages in space and cashflow left me with my smaller scale.

Very nice! While most people hate the Dreadnought-class, I think they look rather cool :) Your model is a perfect example!
