This is my first build on a frame I designed. I hoped to make a frame that would look as good and function as well as an Izzo style frame but used more traditional pieces: namely, no t-joints. I had a Sazabi or Gerbera Tetra style suit in mind, a highly-mobile red suit for a bad-guy ace. I think I did pretty well with the look, but there are definitely some mechanical issues.
About this creation

Full glory.

Mean muggin'. (I definitely took a lot of head design cues from Izzo. Also, don't tell anyone, but I did make a t joint out of the handle of a broken sword to articulate the head.)

Rear.

Rifle in hand.

3/4, looking both BA and noble.

High angle.

Here's where we discuss mechanical issues. The frame for this suit offers a lot of articulation, full shoulder, hip, wrist, and ankle movement, rotation at the waist, 90 degrees on the knees and elbows (I tried double jointing, but the look wasn't great), and even moving thumbs. However, this was a good suit to test with, as building such a massive backpack, and seriously heavy legs pushed the knee, ankle and waist joints beyond their limits. In this picture you can see that the suit still stands on its own, and can get in some poses, but there is not enough friction in the 1x1 clip/1x2 hinge system to keep things stable, or to do any extreme posing. However, the frame without armor had no trouble with one handed hand stands or landing big kicks (shout out to Dhali Zheng and Phong Chang). I think that with lighter armor and/or joint reinforcement, the frame can still be viable. There will be frame pictures when I find them. Ok, now back to the fun stuff.

Shoulder detail.

The shield. I know it's a little chunky but I'm pretty happy with it. I had originally imagined two shield-boosters for the Kazane (like an evil Hazel Gundam) but got impatient trying to get a shape and design I liked. Maybe some day.

Vents.

I loved the magnet holder as a mounting bracket. Also, check out the beam saber stashed in there.

The rifle. I'm usually horrible at making weapons, so I'm pretty pumped on how this one came out.

Inside/scope details.

Unoriginal beam saber.

Ankle armor/foot detail.

Leg backs and foot fuel tanks.

Backpack with boosters, fuel tanks, and maneuvering jets.

Time to pose.

Foot thruster detail.

Thruster city USA.
Despite the friction issues, I'm really happy with this build. Most of the details I wanted are there, and the thing looks pretty awesome on my desk. I have a lot of ideas for suits in the future, ideas that, if you like giant awesome robots, you should be getting pretty excited about. Hope you've enjoyed everything and have plenty of tips to help me make my stuff better.

Nice build! Red and black always give it a good look. Also the no t-joint is very special. |

Pretty good for not using T-pieces. It's been a while since I've built anything at all but I remember my first few mecha had no T-pieces either and it's much harder to build mecha without them.
It was guys like you and Phong and Izzo that showed stuff like this can be done, so I'm glad you liked it. |

Nice! It has a lot of great details despite it's size, and looks very playable. (Don't tell anyone, but I also used two broken swords on my Obsidian Gundam because I don't have any T-pieces ^^) Well about the gun...it needs improvement, as well as the chest area, it looks too blocky for me, but everything else is fine! I like the shield and the skirt armor the most. Keep up the good work! btw check on my mocs if you have the time.
I definitely had my qualms about the chest, but I'm just going to keep using the excuse (to myself) that this is my first mech in this style. I'm glad you liked it. I was totally blown away by your Sazabi so it's good to get feedback from you. |
