Cad Baneís - Hidden Dagger
This MOC is a starship for the bounty hunter, Cad Bane, a featured character from the Clone Wars animated series.
About this creation

Built December 2010 - February 2011

Last year, Calista surprised me with a generous holiday gift; a Cad Bane minifig! She knew I was eager to build up my bounty hunter/rogue population of Star Wars characters, and found Bane on eBay. So what would Cad Bane be without a sweet set of wheels, uh, I mean thrusters?

After a brief search for an official Cad Bane starship, I decided to tackle another original design. In the cartoon, Bane is seen flying a variant of the same fighter as the Magna Guards. And although I like the look of their ship (and even the official LEGO construction set based on itís design), I thought Bane needed something more distinct.

I had purchased a bunch of dark blue and orange bricks from BrickLink that were originally intended to be used for The Dosha Osprey. But once I had figured out the main design of the Osprey, I discovered that LEGO didnít produce the pieces I needed in the blue and orange colors. With the Osprey turned green, and I had a box full of great dark blues and oranges at my disposal.

The two main elements I wanted to build around were the use of two Jedi starfighter windscreens turned sideways, and the rounded tail section similar to the Osprey. I also wanted to create a starship that featured a visual style similar to the YT-2000, an expanded universe starship produced by the same shipyards that created the Millennium Falcon.

Now for the story mode.

Hidden Dagger was originally produced as a prototype courier vessel designed at the Duro Starshipwright Shipyards. Originally designated as the DSS - 2000, itís core design was centered around the popular freighter class starships being built by competitor starship manufacturer, Corellian Engineering Corporation. Even though some significant improvements were integrated into the prototypeís design, the starship failed to peek the interests of would-be buyers. Thus, the project was shelved.

Ten years later, as rumors began to predict the oncoming of galactic wide civil unrest, the DSS - 2000 was redesigned and weaponized to offer superior tracking and tactical fighting capabilities. Outfitted with four medium sized hull piercing blasters and two broad spectrum sensory scanners, Duro Starshipwright designers were confident that the ship would become an instant top seller. But it didnít. Industry analyst ignored the capabilities of the starship, and the leading staff at the shipyards permanently scrapped the DSS - 2000 program.

Enter Cad Bane. Bane had a close associate who worked for Duros, and when word leaked out about the performance capabilities of the discarded starship, Bane devised a black market purchase of the prototype craft. With a fresh coat of paint, and some additional modifications, Hidden Dagger became Cad Baneís primary starship.

Quoting MCLegoboy ! Sweet! Hey, how do you get Cad Bane in and out? Do you have to dimantle the whole windscreen or were there a bunch of hidden, clever hinges?
Thanks for the compliment! The cockpit pod just pops off when I feel like taking Bane out. I tried using a hinge solution but it created too big a gap between the two windshields. Story-wise, I imagine that his seat slides forward into position from the "living" section of the hull; the larger round area between the engines, and that the ship would have an entry hatch underneath, near the back landing struts.

This is a very eye catching craft. I really like the way you used the double canopy configuration for the cockpit. In addition the brick and color choices add to the build rather well. Terrific job!!!

Nice design! It's a great shape but I must confess I'm not a fan of the coloring. It think it would have looked better in darker colours. Maybe black with the dark blue thrown in. But overall a nicely built ship!

Quoting JS Can Really cool and distinct ship. Other than the cockpit, is there an interior?
The back hull is hollow enough to detail an interior. But, I didn't dive that deep into this version of the build.
