About this creation

After creating an award trophy for Marriott last year, I was asked to additionally create scale models of eight different hotels around the United States. They were presented to the hotels themselves as awards for design, construction, collaboration, and and participation. This hotel is located in downtown San Antonio, Texas.

Of all the hotels I've built for Marriott, this one is my favorite. I love the architectural design of this building; it's grand and enormous, yet understated and elegant. It was a pleasure to recreate it as a LEGO model.

The curved front of the building was a fun challenge to figure out. Curved walls can be tricky when they need to have roofs enclose the top, but this also had the challenge of creating several concentric circles with different diameters for the several bits of awnings and cornices.

This is a gorgeous building. I really enjoy the pic with the roof off to show us the techniques you used. Personally, I still have quite a few issues combining curves with straight edges, so it's nice to see someone else's take on solving it.

Love this one. To get a nice curve, I usually just pop a MOC in the oven for twenty minutes and then bend it...but to each his own. (yes, kids...I'm joking!)
